tuners safe to use?

That is correct. You mount it in the pod on the dash to make use of the monitor. If for some reason that you do not want the monitor in the vehicle, you just unplug it and remove it. Now, if you decide to have the engine worked on and there is a risk of them reflashing the computer or if you are getting rid of the vehicle or won't to get rid of the Gryphon, then you should return it to the stock tune. It will be stored in your unit as program 0.

oh, so it does reflash the computer, it only needs to be connected for the monitors... good to know..

Yes, it stores 3 programs plus your stock program. You are only copying a program from the tuner to your trucks computer. The Edge and the Gryphon have the gauges but you do not have to use them. The Xcal3 does not have gauges and you always disconnect it.

Glad I could help. Good luck with your decision. It was the best thing I have done with my truck.
