gryphon vs edge evolution 2

Just wondering what a few of the pro's and cons of the 2 tuners are.

The way I see it now just from reading the forum and the 2 brands websites is that the edge is completely user controlled for tunes and whatever else while the gryphon is all done via the factory or an internet downloaded tune?

Is there anyway to tweak tunes yourself with the gryphon system or not?

Price seems to be pretty much equal with the 2 systems as well.

Are there any glaring differences I am missing between the 2 tuners?

Hi

I'll add my 2 cents to say that the Gryphon starts life as an Edge but gets better through the genius of Bill at PHP who has customized it in a number of different ways. Essentially you can order the Gryphon from PHP with the sames 'canned' tunes as an Edge along with all of the abilities of the Edge.

From that point it is a totally improved ball game with the add-ons that Bill has programmed into the Gryphon, including its ability to display many parameters in metric.

Beyond this, you can also order customized tunes from Bill that he can write to meet the exact dynamics of your vehicle if you have installed an after-stock CAI or exhaust, etc. If you buy an Edge, if you ever want to customize your tunes, you will have to send it to Bill since, as far as I know, Edge does not write custom tunes.

Simply put, order the Gryphon from Bill and get it customized to meet your vehicle's specs or just use the Gryphon like you would an Edge for now and know that you can order custom tunes at any point in the future.

Finally, while I have no experience with Edge support, having been in contact with Bill and Corey over the past week or so, I know that their customer support is absolutely outstanding!

Hope this helps. Bill may jump in and add (or clarify) more.

The Edge and the Gryphon start life as the same hardware, with the same canned tunes, and do the exact same thing. They function exactly alike and all features are the same, EXCEPT. The huge difference is that with the Gryphon, you have the option of, when you know what you want, getting custom tunes from Bill. The Edge or Gryphon is wonderful but the custom tunes from Bill are double wonderful.

And (I have to put in my 2 cents here too) you can STILL "tweak" the tunes in the custom tuned Gryphon just the same as you can with the "stock" tuned Edge. Don't like the rev or speed limits? Change them. Want to shift sooner and more "firmly"? Fine, change those things to what YOU want.

The difference between the two programmers is that with custom tunes, the device is set up for your truck and driving needs specifically, not some "generic" f150.

Call Bill at www.PHPTune.com and discuss this with him. You'll be glad you did and you'll be getting advice you can depend on.

Agreed!..........that sums it up right there. And not only are the custom tunes double wonderful.......they correct driveability issues resulting from CAI's not liking canned tunes (if you have a CAI or plan to get one).

oh ok that explains a lot, thanks guys.

I thought the 2 products looked really similar. I just might be taking advantage of the winter sale from gryphon quickly then.

Just to throw my two cents in... the Gryphon has a few more features than the Evo. For example, Bill just created an update for a metric option. Though he hasn't released it, he is working on a great datalogging function, too. We just talked about it about an hour ago when he finally came to bed!

I just recently got "Screw'ed and really hate the Electronic Throttle crap, and I am thinking of a Gryphon, Does this basically take care of the problem.

Had an '03 Supcab w/ 4.6 and felt it had a lot better response and true speed. I am freaking out over this ETC!!!!!

It will solve all your problems. Eliminates hesitation, firmer shifts, good downshifting, and adds about 25 HP. Plus it provides digital gauges to monitor all you want to know.

Wow, a metric option would be nice! I like that being up here in Canada, I might have to look into sending in my edge.

The Metric update is available for everyone. The only thing is that I will need to rebuild your custom files to work with the new firmware.

If you'll e-mail me your name and the serial number in your Gryphon, I'll rebuild the files and set the download for you. You can find the serial number by going to [Menu] -> [Diagnostics] -> [Tech Support] -> [Version Info] or by plugging the unit to the PC, running Pegasus, and getting the number from the lower right corner of the software.

Take care.
