How sensitive are these engines to Octane changes?

Hey guys. I've been running my Superchips 92 Performance tune for over 2 years now. How will the engine react if I switch back to the 87? Will it be okay or will it protest?

I don't have a Superchips device, but my understanding is you can switch back and forth at your whim with any of them. Switching the tune changes the PCM's program, and it shouldn't have to "relearn" anything.

But, make sure if you go back to the higher octane tune at a later date, that you've filled the tank with high octane gas first, or you'll have pinging. Going the other way shouldn't be much of a problem. If you switch to the 87 octane tune while you still have high octane gas in the tank, you'll simply lose power because the spark will be retarded. Once you have 87 octane gas in the tank, everything will be back in balance.

You just have to match the octane to whatever tune you are running calls for. No more, no less.

Figures - Bluejay manages to say on one line what it took me five lines to explain! :o

Maybe, being such a "youngin" and all, he's had practice doing this kind of thing in "text messages".

Be glad when you "grow up" and gain the perspective of "windy wisdom"!

What's this "text message" thingy you speak of? I'm just a man of few words.

Ask your grandchildren, Bluejay. I suppose, in my advanced state of Geezerhood, I've learned I have to touch base with the younger set now and then to keep up with progress!
