Speedo Calibration with Multiple Tuners Question???

Hey gang,

I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this or if they have tried it? I am currently running Troyer Custom tunes with a X Cal 3 tuner. At the same time I am also running a Edge tuner just for the gauges only.

I just put on larger tires and I seem to having a hard time dialing in my speedometer with the X Cal 3 to get it back to where it should be. Can I use the Edge tuner to input the tire size only or will that "F" up my custom Troyer tune?

I have tried several revs per mile settings on my X Cal 3 and I can not see to dial it in. Anyway....

Any help would be appreciated!

I would call the shop that did your custom tune and ask them. It seems to me that it would replace the custom tune...I just did mine (I have a superchips) and I actually had to input a 31" tire height. The old or stock was 31.7 and the new ones are 32.7. I checked it with a gps.

If you want a dependable answer, call Bill at PHP with your question. He knows the Edge inside and out and will also be writing tunes for the XCal.

My gut feeling though, is that you can't do it. About the only possibility would be for you to try to "customize" a Level 1 transmission tune, but I suspect the Edge will not let you do that unless the PCM is first returned to stock.

I really don't see why you can't get the speedo to within +-2mph just using the XCal though. I believe it want's tire revs per mile. Inputting a smaller figure makes the speedo read faster, a larger number makes it read slower. Make sure your gear ratio is correct too. What is your tire size?

I am now running 275/70/18's (33's) on a 3.73 rear end. I currently have my X Cal 3 set to 615 revs per mile. I think I may need to bump it up. At low speeds, I seem to be ok. The faster I go, the more off it seems to be. About 4 to 5 mph off.

Is it 4-5mph fast? If so, I'd try 625 revs.

Yea, that is what I thought. I will give it a try later today. I tell you? It sure is hard to drive 60 mph look at my Edge MPH's and my GPS's mph's all at the same time to see what speed am I really going at!

If you use the EDGE, it will take the TP Tune and save it as your stock tune, and you will have an EDGE tune loaded. To get back to the TP tune you must then have the EDGE write back to stock.

Measure your tire radius...

If what you said is true, i.ride, he could use a Level 1 (transmission only) Edge tune. It would continue to use the TP tune as the basis but would "firm up the shifts". He could then "customize" it, setting in a new tire size and reducing the shift firmness back to the Troyer "feel".

I am not convinced the Edge would see the TP tune as "stock" though, but I could easily be wrong. I'll stick with my earlier recommendation of 625 revs. From what I've seen in other posts, the XCal does not seem to give accurate speeds with "measured" tire dimensions. It looks like a (directed) trial and error approach gives the best results.
