Are you going to pull the Livewire out of the vehicle before dropping it off? I would ..

Yep. I've done numerous loading and uploading sequences. What was different was that I just updated the firmware, and tune. Some of those things that those patches claimed to fix, actually became evident, like the unit won't detect errors, where before it would.

Well I took it to the dealer, and told them to flash the PCM, and naturally they didn't listen, and said that the CHT sensor was faulty, and they'd need 6 hours @ $75 per to remove the intake manifold to replace it.

I don't believe this diagnosis so much, I'm not even going to order that part. My motor only has 2K on it.

I'm sorry, but I read the function of CHT in the factory manual, and nowhere does it say that if it fails, it kills my temp gauge, my A/C, and I can't read errors on my Livewire.

All of those symptoms point to the PCM.

Let me ask this question. Do tunes affect any part of the "build" programming?

I updated my LW, and then had these problems. If I loaded back the old files, could these functions come back-or were they just dropped.

I've moved freely between stock and custom tunes after I lost Gauge/AC, and haven't had a tune problem, just a function problem.

Now I'm really confused.

If you have a 2007 truck, why not just let the dealer play with it? Since it's still under warrenty, he'll eat the bill and through trial and error, ought to get the thing fixed. Also, while I can't say this for certain, but since the reading you see on the temperature gauge in the cab is "inferred" from the CHT reading, isn't it possible that you DO have a bad CHT sensor? I don't see why this would effect the A/C, but then there's a lot of things I don't know.

And, from what you said a couple of posts ago, it sounds like the LW is malfunctioning. I think I'd be talking to whoever you got the LW from. I know I would not use a "suspect" programmer on my truck!

And, maybe a malfunctioning LW corrupted the PCM and your advice to the dealer to refllash it may be "dead on". If so, he'll eventually do it (if he has the vehicle).

Does anybody see holes in my reasoning here?

There are people here that will know for sure but there might possibly be a safety cut out on the A/C compressor that disables compressor if CHT gets too high. Maybe trying to reduce load under high CHT condition. I might be totally wrong but seems possible.

Out of bumper to bumper warranty. Only Powertrain left.

Got a clean stock file from SCT, and loaded it. Same problems, so I'm ruling out the tuner for now.

I found a new CHT @ a dealer, and will pick it up and install tonight-just for the hell of it. its a $22 part that the dealer wanted to charge $450 to install.
I'll by a cool wrench @ Sears and keep the change-thanks.

Let you know in the morning.

I still think something's amiss, as the shop manual doesn't say the PCM kills accessories when the temps too high, it kills cylinders to prevent overheat.

But it only does that if temps are too high-nothing said about if the sensor fails.

Logic says that it makes sense to kill load (like a/c). But the manual says nothing about actually doing it.

The Livewire still cant read DTC's-which is even odder. It can turn off the engine light, but obviously it comes back on with the "check gauges" message.

That is the promising part. I read that if the CHT fails, a "check gauges" message would appear.

Its worth a try.

BTW, I would seriously recommend all tuner owners to store a good stock file, off of their flash device, as I have now. Its great to be able to go back to baseline.

How in the heck can you be out of bumper to bumper warranty with only 2K on a 2007 truck? What am I missing here? (Aren't they usually 36/36)?

2K on a new motor. Two months ago I took it in because it threw a code. They found the crank endplay to be out of spec, and replaced the motor.

I drove another 500 miles with the new motor, and then hit 36K.

I'd think through all that you'd be under warranty still.

more than likely covered under original 3/36 when oem parts are replaced at most dealerships
