JDog, was the XCal cleared before you loaded your emailed tunes? I would return the truck to stock with the XCal and disconnect the truck battery, be sure the XCal was cleared, re-load the tunes onto the XCal and then reconnect the battery and reload the tunes onto the truck pcm. If it still throws codes drive your Toyota until you get it tuned right.

Black dawg,

Ya I had cleared the previous tunes before I installed the new ones from VMP, I did set the truck back to stock because in engine fail safe mode the truck will not turn on. I will try doing what you said to see if that helps. How long will I have to leave the battery dissconnected so the computer resets? So you guys haven't heard anyone else with this problem? These newer trucks are fussy compaired to my old f-150 haha

What year F150 is it for? I've heard from a lot of tuners that the 2008 are fussy, even more fussy than the 2004s. I'm sure Justin will be able to take care of it soon as he responds. Another very important thing is that the AF1 3.5" is a very hard intake to tune for with a mail order tune. If it was me I'd think about getting the 3" tube.

Don't bait him like that ... OCP#11 is done with being like that as well as everyone else who responded to my thread.

Probably long enough to download the tunes to the XCal again. If it was cleared and everything done right the first time then probably it won't help. Possibly the tunes got corrupted in transfer or a tune was partially overwritten with another. Could be a lot of stuff or most likely just that the flow ratio is off. If that's the case I'd want to put it on a dyno instead of taking pot shots at it via email. What part of the country do you live?

Thumper,

Thanks for the response, its an 04. I had an 01 a while ago, that I had put a K&N intake and Superchips tuner on it. Im hoping Justin can help me too, its not just the running lean thing, Im sure he can clear that up with the tune. Im just wondering why the truck is going into the stupid engine fail safe mode.

Black Dawg,

Ya I guess anything could have happend, is there anything I need to do before installing it? On my 01 I had to dissconnect the fuel pump fuse or something like that. I live In southern Utah.

Seem like you've done it right. No there are no strange fuses or anything to pull. The 3.5-inch is a big bad *** intake and I don't know any tuners/dyno's in that area but it may be worth looking into finding a dyno and getting the air flow numbers (datalogging) so Justin can make adjustments based on data.

Another option is switching to the 3-inch tube as Thumper mentioned I have both the 3.5 and 3-inch AF1 and I bet I could switch a 3-inch into your truck when your not looking and you would not notice a power difference. It's smoother and less risky imo and you can run it with the stock tune if needed without going lean. I had my 3.5 mail order tuned first then dyno'd later. It was spot on however it sometimes idled rough when warming up so I tried the 3-inch and have found no flaws with it.

My guess is that you got one of the fussy 2004s. Combine that with a AF1 3.5" tube that should really be dyno tuned. I wouldn't trust a mail order tune regardless of who it came from. Don't think it's only Justin either. This isn't a bash but someone bought a mail order tune and AF1 3.5" from Troyer and had the same problems I think.

Only you could take a Justin mistake and turn it into a Troyer slam.
i am just trying to figure out if its the pain or the pain pills that make you such an a-hole.

and before you start you "grow-up" crap this thread was basically going well and no-one was slaming your boy simply stating what he could do until justin fixed him up.

BROTHERDAVE, it was not a "slam". He was talking about "mail order tunes". If the mail request is not precise, the resulting tune will be the same.

I have to agree with Thumper on the "mail order" tunes when you are talking about an 04 with a 3 1/2 CAI. I just would not want to risk it. I have an early 05, and I am not going to risk it.

Try disconnecting the negative battery terminal so your computer can adjust itself to the af1
