Question scan gauge

On my truck which is an 03 will the scan gauges trans temp be accurate. Im kinda leaning on getting one but more people have it on later model fords. I would like to see some reviews on some trucks like mine or should they be similar.

This is a good question clinr0sp. I have a Gryphon and I monitor the TFT. It seems to follow the oil temp as the engine warms up and then it stabilizes below the oil temp and coolant temp.

The real question here is does a Scangauge (or my Gryphon) get its information from a sensor in the transmission fluid circuit, or is it "inferred", like the coolant temp is from the CHT? I'm betting on a sensor, which would be accurate, but I could be wrong.

Anybody have any input?

I had a digital temp guage installed. It measures the outlet temp of the trans. The stock factory cooler seems to work great. Truck came with the towing package.

where is the sending unit located. Near the cooler or right from transmission.

chris, did you use XGauge and add it on there? It gets all the info from a sensor inside your truck, im not sure if the 97-03's have them, but if your truck is a CAN and program a PWM code, it will read it wrong and vice vera.

I have the ScanGuage II and programmed in Trans Temp. My 97 gives the readout and I beleive it to be pretty close. when I first start up in the a.m. the trans temp and the water temp are usually the same. Then as I drive water temp gets up to 195-198 and trans temp goes to 148 - 180.

I also programmed in Horsepower. That one I do not believe at all. It goes allover the place.
