Help a Newbie Out PLEASE

Guys need your help to clarify a few things. I am new to the tuners and have been reading through tons of threads here trying to learn ect. I have been an F150 owner for allot of years but never used a tuner, after reading allot of the neat things you can do with them I want to try one. I am looking for something simple as I dont want to mess anything up on the truck.

If I read correctly the Edge Evo is the one I would need for my 2006 F150 5.4 Triton yes ?

I see adds saying units for sale 04-06 and them some 04-07 and some just 07are they not upgradeable with software or firmware for the year you are driving or do I have to be carefull to get one for my exact year ? I have an 2006 now and am going to be ordering a 2009 in Sept and was hoping to carry it over am I not going to be able to ??

If I read right there are 3 presets and I can just plug the unit in and choose one like performance for example and way I go is this correct ??

Thanks for all the advice I am looking to buy this week maybe.

You're right about the "presets". The Edge works with either the 5.4 L Triton or the 4.6.

I have an Edge that is NOT custom tuned, and it has made my truck much more enjoyable to drive. The unit I have is for a "span" of years (04-06) but I'm pretty sure Edge upgraded the firmware so that it works in 07s (and probably 08s) too.

But, if you want to put it in a 2009, I suspect all bets are off.

We have a resident guru, ASEMechanic (also known as Bill) who would be able to answer this far better than me - but he's been sick lately and is not showing up in the threads.

Probably, If I were you and were headed towards an Edge, I'd get in touch with Bill and talk about a "Gryphon" (a rebranded Edge he can tune). My guess is, it would be forward compatable.

Not sure anyone has any information on the upcoming P415 platform PPCs. It may or may not have the current 07-08 PPC.

I believe that the 09's will have the same powerplant as the 08's for now at least.
I would defently talk to bill and see what he thinks but if it were me i would hold off until edge releases the evo for the 09, Who knows there might be alot of new features that they could come out with for it that all of us current edge owners dont have.

there is word that the later 09's might be stuffed with the posibility of a "Boss" v8 which i believe is the 6.1.

From what I've read the '09s will not have a V-6 option. Base engine will be the 4.6 and both the 4.6 and 5.4 will come with a 5 speed tranny -FINALLY!!

I've not heard of a manual shift option.. stupid.

Anyway, I'm sure there'd need to be re-writes of tunes for a 5 speed.
