How come the wall wart for your phone is plugged into the top outlet, upside-down, instead of the bottom outlet, right-side-up?

Good info ASEMechanic. so say I get the edge and want to get a custom tune. Is this difficult? and how would one go about doing this? also would it require a Dyno run to get one or can I just tell info about my truck mods ect. to get a tune designed for a truck with a AF1 cai and magnaflow catback exhaust. I am not sure there is a place arround here that dose dynos. nor am I sure where to look. I have actually always wandered if my truck was tuned correctly as sometimes I still smell that sulfer smell coming from my exhaust. especially in the winter.

For most simple modifications such as a CAI or Magnaflow, any competent tuner should be able to handle it without actually dynoing the vehicle. If you were to go with something more extreme like a custom built intake, modified throttle body, supercharger, nitrous, etc., then a dyno tune we certainly be in order.

Custom tunes for the Edge Evo aren't difficult. Like the XCal, they are USB updatable and files can be sent via e-mail.

One thing I will mention is that even form the factory, calibrations can be horribly off. My dad's 2003 E-350 ran like a turd from day one and got MAYBE 9 MPG. It also had that bucket-of-rotten-eggs sulfury smell any time you ran it more than 10 minutes. Did I mention that it had a Bank 1 Rich code and the local Ford dealer couldn't figure out why? Anyway, after throwing the wideband on it and checking AFRs, we noticed that the leanest it ever ran was about 10.8-11.0... way rich! After a couple tweaks on the MAF and Open Loop Fuel tables as well as a shot of timing, the truck ran like a scalded dog and got up to about 13.5 MPG fully loaded with tools. Also, the stinky smell went away.

I'm sure Ford's calibrations are continuously improved but sometimes they just don't work correctly right from the factory. Sometimes a good tune can actully fix a problem with a factory tune, not just improve the downrated ones they provide.

I hope this helps...

Bill

Johnny...

Dude, that is one seriously nice collection. How long have you been working on it? Every time I try to collect something, my kids always end up destroying it. Either that, or the ex-wife wants it in the divorce! Ha ha!

Take care.

Thanks Bill. that is some great info. makes me alot more comfortable getting an edge. I have always thought my truck might be running a little rich. especially with the poor gas milage I get. the first year or two it sure stank bad. but lately I only smell that smell once in a while. I am not sure if the CAI and cat back exhaust hellped it run leaner or if the dealer reflash when I complained of the throttle lag might have helped. either way I still do not get too good gas milage. the best gas milage I get is 17 highway and 12 city. most of the time I get less than that. I wander if getting the edge will help correct this problem. dose the edge ask for a more rich or lean condition than the factory tune?

So what are the acceptable temp ranges for exhaust gas, engine tempp etc to watch for so I can catch a lean condition before it throws a code?
