The fuel trims have to be above a certain percentage before it will throw the CEL on.....plus two drive cycles.

Mine never threw any codes either, but man was it running hot! Anyway, best thing I ever did was get custom tunes for my truck.

Why would your truck run lean just from running the EDGE?

The Edge is meant for a stock truck. Actually a stock intake. It does not play nice with a CAI. At least on the 04+ models. I would suggest that any of you that are running an Edge tuner, check your plugs and exhaust temp. just to make sure.

He didnt say anything about not using an aftermarket CAI. I thought he was using a stock CAI. However I seen in his sig he may have a AF1, I thought Ive seen many post in the forums were people said they called Troyer and said they could run the AF1 and would not make there truck run lean??

Not sure, but I would assume that if you were running a aftermarket cat back exhaust and a CAI, you may be ok and not have ay lean issues. It's when you toss in the Edge tuner that you start to have problems. Like I stated, The Edge tuner is a "canned" tuner meant for stock trucks (no mods) Now a lot of folks here with 04+ F-150's say that they have CAI's, exhaust, etc... and no problems. I just wonder, have they really checked their plugs and exhaust temps to make sure they are not running lean??? I never through any codes with my Edge, but when I checked my plugs and exhaust, guess what???? LEAN!!!!! Now that I have custom tunes, all is well!

A tuner gets its power from tweaking the timing in an engine as well as tweaking the air/fuel ratio. Timing and air volume/fuel are what causes a rich to lean situation. The 2004's came from the factory with most of them tuned a little lean to start with. You start increaseing the air volume without watching what it is doing in relation to the fuel, you run the risk of getting too lean. The Edge is an off the self program that is designed for stock air flow. If you want to increase the air flow with a bigger, better intake, it should be done with a custom tune just for your truck, prefferably on a dyno.

So you may be running lean and never know it? How lean before it throughs a code?

O.k. so if this is the case, check a plug or two every oil change?

If it were me, as soon as I found out that I was running lean, I would no longer use the Edge tuner. Not worth it to ruin an engine over a $300 tuner. Like it was stated before, check the exhaust for high heat, check the plugs and engine compartment. If you are running a aftermarket CAI, get a custom tune. If you like your Edge, you could get it customed tuned. JMHO
