I'd highly recommend giving Troyer Performance a call, ask them what they can do for you. I've been using Troyers tunes via the Xcal 2 for 2k miles now with no problems whatsoever.

I know that 2k is in no way a "long term" test, but I can say that there is nothing that feels or sounds wrong since using the tunes.

I think it's the best thing I've done for my truck.. it's not like it's been "hot-rodded" at all.. it's more like the restrictions that Ford builds in have been removed and the engine and transmission are able to perform to their true capacity.

As others have said, and I have in other posts, it's truly like having a completely different truck.

If I was doing it over again I'd order Troyers stage one package deal, intake, exhaust and tunes all in one shot. I believe I would have saved at least $200 by doing it that way.

I drove with the Edge for a long time and I've driven with Troyer tunes for about 6k now and I definitely prefer the Troyer tunes. The truck just runs better now. I don't have the driveability problems I had with the Edge and I can run aftermarket items without it having issues. While I like Edge over stock, I prefer Troyer over Edge.

I am curious if your source was referring to the user changes on the edge for shift points, timing, WOT fuel etc... If so then I would understand the difference. Mine has been changed at the calibration level through the entire powerband with shift, CAI compensation etc...

I cannot comment on Troyer but custom tuned Edge is considerably better than stock Edge. My guess is that either custom tuned option is pretty comparable. I am not looking for tenths at the strip or getting on dyno and worrying about an extra 5 HP that in the real world doesn't make a difference driving back and forth to work.
