Hypertech Programmer

I have a 2005 F150 FX4 with 5.4 Liter Triton. I bought the truck used and it came with the Hypertech Programmer. I played with it a little but don't really understand how it works. I mean unless you set the shift points, it doesn't look like this programmer really makes a difference. I've never driven the truck without it, so I don't know if there is a difference. The only settings that I changed are for the 87 octane gas and firm shifting. Other than that, I don't actually know what it does.

Does anyone have any experience with this unit and what does it actually do?

Thanks,,,

Might want to hit the hypertech website and see if they have manuals available for download in PDF. May be something your missing as it should make some difference in performance. Sorry I personally know nothing about that tuner so I cant be of much more assistance

Should have a 93 octane setting with a choice of tow or performance. You will notice when its in performance on acceleration.

Hypertech

Yes I know it has other octane settings, but with the price of gas I chose the lowest one. There is no 'tow' or 'performance' setting. Everything is shift points with rpm adjustments. I'm not going to mess with the shift points. It just doesn't seem there are many options with the Hypertech.
What other tuners are good for this truck (2005 F150 FX4)?

The Edge Evo is very easy to use and makes a big difference, but there is TONS of things that you can change on there to make it better.

I have a Hypertech programmer and when you have the 87 octane power tune, the peak horsepower change is only 4-5 hp. If you use the 93 octane tune, you will see a 10 hp peak change.

You will notice firmer shifts if you have the shift firmness setting selected. I also boosted by 1-2 shift point by +100 RPM and increase the rev limit by +100. These settings help me when towing my ski boat.

I am with you regarding the 93 octane setting.
