*UPDATE*

Clayton, the nice guy at the Ford Dealership here in Yellowknife gave me a call about my truck. Apparently my PCM was fried and they have another one on order from the States. 5 - 6 DAYS!!! AHH, they don't have a loaner on the lot right now but they will tomorrow. Hopefully they don't give me a Focus or something!

Crappy thing is that now I am scared to plug my Edge back in, I am afraid it will happen again

Dude, I am sorry that you're down for at least a week. However, once again Ford's scare tactics have caused undue grief. There is nothing "fried" about your PCM unless you stuck it in a vat of hot oil. Remember, dealer techs get paid on labor. The service manager also makes commission on parts. Who pays for it? YOU!

Unless he's an idiot, there is no reason the tech couldn't hook up the IDS and reflash the PCM with a stock calibration. Yikes! Overnight it to me and I'll do it for ya for Pete's sake. Just cover the shipping.

Take care.

Bill

Yes. They may have to have both ignition keys to reset the PATS (anti-theft), but the WDS shouldn't have any problem reflashing the PCM.

If they can't figure it out, have 'em call me and I'll walk them through it.

Good luck.

Sadly, this is quite true.

*UPDATE*

Today I went out to the Ford Dealership and still no loaner vehicle! ARGH! But I was talking to the mechanic and I told him about the re flash and he said he could do that, but there is a grounding fault within the PCM itself. He then tried to tell me that if he replaces it and it still happens I will have to pay for the PCM which is about $800 Canadian. Ouch. Then he goes on to tell me that my leveling kit may have stretched a line causing the ground to be faulty or my DVD player grounding may have caused the problem. I say BS, and he says he doesn't think that is the problem. So I dunno, maybe they are giving me the run around just to make some cash flow. Any suggestions what to look for or ask in the chance they come back saying it was my leveling kit or my DVD player?

They are starting with the BS excuses before the pcm even gets there.

I know, it seems like I always get shafted with these people. I like it how they threw the threat of me having to pay for it before it even came in and before they even knew what the real problem was. Oh well.

leveling kit causing the problem?? BS.

it was the -40 degree attempt at flashing your PCM that caused your problems.

you shouldnt have a problem reloading with your edge, just make sure you're at a decent temperature, in a garage or something.

I have already tried to program the STOCK calibration with the edge, BUT it still kept on happening. I may try to go out there sometime tonight and try again, or I may just wait for the new PCM. I will defiantly try the stock again tho in warmer weather. I don't have access to a garage at this time.

BTW, thanks for all your guys input to this problem! I am not to sure if it was Bill who called on Monday but someone from Powerhungry called as well as Edge!

I suppose a grounding fault could be possible but only in relation to a harness problem. I can't conceivably imagine how you would get a ground fault from programming the PCM.

So my question is, did he actually try to program the PCM? Or did he just give you the Ground Fault story and then blow off the reprogram? I'd have him do it just to be sure and here's why....

A PCM that has screwed up the calibration can do any number of things, from not starting at all to running badly to actually running fine. Depends what got chunked. Well, guess what... it can throw ghost DTCs as well. Once the calibration is fixed, those codes go away.

I'd tell tech to quit screwing around and just program the darn thing. If it works, it works and you go home with a smile. If not, then you aren't any worse off than you are now. However, given the run-around you've been getting, I'd stand there and watch him reprogram the PCM just to make sure he does it.

Whatever happened to trying to actually help people? I know times are rough, but how do people sleep at night KNOWING they are screwing someone out of hard earned money.

Best of luck, Brendan.

Bill

PS - Yes, it was me that called...

Could have the ground fault possibly have come from the boost?

As for watching him program it, I am gonna go do that tomorrow sometime because I think that they are giving me the run-around. Plus on a crappier side note, because of my age (22) they are not going to give me a loaner vehicle because "it is the same as trying to rent a vehicle" so I am out of a vehicle until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week!

I LOVE Ford Trucks, but if they keep on doing this to me I may have to go to a Dodge Diesel!

And thanks again Bill you rock
