I know Mike Troyer and Troyer Performance are well respected on this board and it is not my intention to try to take anything away from them, but I must say that since they are a dealer for both SCT and Edge (from what I've seen on their site) I don't consider them to be indepented or un-biased.
However I belive that most end-users make excellent indepented and un-biased reviewers because they have nothing to gain and often will be the first to tell you if a product doesn't perform as advertised. We have a whole engineering build full of experts that won't let a product leave here until they think it's the best. But at the end of the day if the end-user isn't happy with the product it doesn't matter how many experts say its the best.
That being said, all Hypertech tunes are independently tested when certified for CARB emissions standards. Part of that certification process is a power verification that ensures that our power gains are within 5% of our claims. This power verification was adopted recently to prevent false advertisements of power gains.
Again thank you for your suggestions and if you don't mind I'd like to send you a PM.
PS I had my name changed to avoid any further confusion

My reference to TP was merely a suggestion, as his shop is the one I'm most familiar with.
I do believe he has stated many times that he will sell what performs best; and is interested in what truly provides performance benefits (while preserving reliability). And he does test everything he sells extensively, so my belief is he would give a very objective evaluation - and certainly a comprehensive and thorough one.
I am not privy to the data TP has amassed on Hypertech's product's capabilites and/or performance - you would need to have that discussion with them.
I am always amenable to PM's.
Good luck to you, sir.
Regards;
Bubba

Well I will be the first to say I would be more than happy to test/evaluate any equipment and give objective opinions. I am currently considering the purchase of a tuner and I am debating and undecided on purchasing either the Hypertech max energy or the Edge evolution and any information or comparision of the two very much interests me. I would also like to say that it is refreshing to see a company say that they are interested in the happiness of the end user as opposed to the happiness of the vendor who pushes their products. Few companies truly care about customer service in the true sense of the words.
I'm interested...
Darnell, I have a 99 Lariat 5.4L and would like to take you up on that trial (I also have a 97 F150 4.6L that is in the shop). I pull a 20' boat and it is the PITS when I get to 70mph and have the truck try hard to stay in overdrive and boy my MPG goes to the TRASH - 9 MPG last time I went to FL from SC. Cost me PLENTY! I figure, I save over $100 every trip if I could stay in overdrive and pull at 70mph - it's just the sweet spot I need.

The Max Energy is replacing the Power Programmer III as our handheld programmer/DTC reader and the HyperPAC combines our tuning with a an automotive computer that has Gages, a Drag Strip program, Dynamometer, and DTC reader that shows both a trouble code and a complete description of it.
Hypertech doesn't currently sell direct so at this time I can't offer you guys any type of group buy on the Max Energy, but I'm sure if you do a little searching on the internet you can find them for 379.99 which is good bit below suggested retail.

Now if you want to sent me one for a test dummy I'd be glad to try it out. Other than that I'm sorry I'm spending my money elsewhere.

What a difference and for this reason until I'm proved different by someone else's dollar I have no intentions on buying another product for Hypertech. Sorry but I lost 100$ on selling that tuner. I was glad I found a used Edge for 235$ to off set the cost.

I am looking into a tuner myself, but to come on here and ask individuals for their evaluations is good. But if your company is not willing to send out tuners for them to try for FREE then most likely you will have trouble with buyers.
Wouldn't matter if you had a contract that says you agree to return the tuner in say three weeks or something like that. But that is a lot of cash to fork out on a product that isn't very proven on the F150 line.
