Thump, why would talking about VMP tunes get this thread locked down? Maybe I don't follow the ins and outs of this board enough but I thought discussing this stuff was what it was all about. I've always appreciated you suggesting VMP as I really like my tunes from Justin and it would be a shame if that type of information can not be talked about here. I would hate to think an open forum and the experiences of its members is tempered in some way. Shoot an email if I am in the dark.

As far as this thread. I decided to try the TP/AF1 3.5 combo as well. To date I have had nothing but a good experience with them and they were very prompt getting my AF1 to me (of course can't use it yet). It is unfortunate that people are being told a certain time frame that is getting blown however I guess due to this board I planned on about 3 months no matter what they said. I face deadlines and time frames with my job too, many of which are very hard to define due to the nature of my work.

I would highly suggest anyone interested in TP but don't like the wait to go ahead with the TP order and also get some from Justin (or other tuner). A tune from VMP is $50 and you may think about just getting a 93 since that's where the real difference is anyway. I got my tunes in about two or three weeks (may have been a little sooner but I changed something on him) but they were written over and had to be re-done which took another week or so. Justin was very patient with various questions I had and me changing intakes mid stride and sent me two great tunes in the end. For me it took a few tank fulls before shifts smoothed out and the tunes seemed to take full effect. Maybe this is due to mail order tunes vs dyno tunes but there is some patience required there as well from my experience.

I am confident TP will send great tunes as well since it seems the positive reaction to Mike's tunes are equal to or greater than the negativity of the wait. Mike as well spent much time on the phone with me answering various questions as did Anita and Crystal.

Anyway I would have the same discussion with Justin or Mike and anyone else so if my post is offensive to this board in some way and gets it locked or poofed then I definitely won't miss it here.

I don't take offence, and neither should anyone else. I have spoken to Troyer several times, and he knows his stuff, but there ARE other SCT tuners, and the quality of their service and tunes would probably be close if not equal to Mike's. There's only so much you can do to a tune.

If you want TP tunes, wait. If you don't want to wait, call SCT, or go by your nearest ford dealership and ask them who your nearest tuner is.

I don't recall the exact time, though I remember the excrutiating wait for that package to arrive, I believe it was in the 6-8 weeks timespan when I got mine.

I had a tune from another "reputable" company before. I challenged mike to beat what they had, basically calling him out on the board. Then I talked to him on the phone, and the guy acted first class, like we had never spoken on the boards. He knows his stuff, and his custom tuned pulled 25 more HP than another companies custom tune did. Did it take a long time, yeah. Were there unexpected delays???? Yes, but well, when you modify your vehicle its different than mine, its different than chesters, and different than everyone elses. Custom tuning is an art, and it isn't something that Mike can teach someone to just jump into and do. Can any of you expect to paint like Picaso with a couple weeks training???? I don't think so, but if you can call me and I'll bank roll you for half the profits

Point is, you're looking for the best possible combo for your truck, and IMO you have found it. A little more patience and you'll have it. If you haven't already recieved your tuner, then ask for a refund, and if it hasn't been done or shipped then I'm sure Mike would cancel your order. My personal computer (VXX1) is apparently one of the hardest there is to program and mike is more concerned with getting it done right than getting it done fast......Quality over quantity (or speed for that matter)

Have you never ordered anything that ended up being on backorder and had to wait? I mean, really, dam! Talk to Mike on THE PHONE and you will get the info you want. I never believed anything I read here, and even for a stint opposed most of the views mike placed on here. In the end, I would ship my car to VA and have Mike tune it before I let a local guy here screw with it!

Best of luck

I've been threatened to be banned before for simply questioning Troyer or talking about my personal experience with them. I do love my VMP Tunes though.

No kidding. Although it has changed a little since the change of ownership.

He sold it to some company (I forget the name and am too lazy to search), although he still is the "webmaster" and there haven't been any changes. As for the sponsored site thing, you're absolutely right. Over on a diesel site I'm on, there are many different site sponsors in the tuning department, and all of them are willing to back up each other, recommend each other, or point out good things about other tuners without the fear of being bashed by others and/or banned.

Talking

i dont knock any of the tuners on here. i have talked to troyer at length before i got my troyer tunes and he is a great person to talk to with a lot of knowledge. the fords are his bread and butter. after some issues i had with my truck(not troyer) i had taken all my mods off. now that all the issues had been resolvedand i am modding again i went a different route this time. i chose vmp tuning and i am very satisfied with my tunes. each of the tuners have there basic changes that they make. then that is where is stops. after that it is up to the tuner in how aggressive or mild they tune a truck. there are certain tables that each will or wont change.each will do there own tuning. to teach someone to do it there way is almost impossible. even if they were to teach someone there way the other person is just that. another person with there own veiws. the main tuner will still have to go over each tune. when i was with the gm croud i used hp tuners. for the first two years i modded the truck i had it tuned. after that i bought the hp tuners and began doing it myself. i had a lot of help starting out. i eventually got it down pretty good. but i was tuning for myself. i dont think the owners or webmaster will ban one from mentioning another tuner as long as it isnt thrown in anothers face. putting in direct links to non sponsers is forbidden on almost all boards. because paying sponsers do pay the bills. saying u have vmp or anothers tunes should be ok. saying that they are the better than all others and posting links to take awayfrom paying sponsers will get you band i am sure. i will never knock troyer or any other tuners. just share my personal experience is all. just my 2 cents. and all good mods no matter what they are shouldbe worth the wait.

I don’t have any of Mike’s tunes, and for the matter I have no tunes from anyone. However I would rather wait 6 months for a good quality tune that would not cause damage to my motor then wait 14 days and have a major problem with the motor. If Mike truly has that many orders, and I believe that to be true, then I personally would look at that as one hell of a customer promotion of a business…

In any regards the best of businesses generally follow this rule:

Under promise and over deliever…

Can’t fault Mike if he doesn’t follow that rule since obviously his service speaks volumes with many willing to wait it out…

Okay... I have to take you to task on this one, Thump. Who has threatened to 'ban' you if you talked about your personal experience with them?
