Major Frustration

alright guys, so my first edge evo was defective, my new one arrived from Edge the other day, i hook it up today for the first time and it does THE EXACT SAME THING as the other one. it asks for the disclaimer, i press enter, then it says "please wait while evolution initializes" then shuts off after 15 seconds, never displays the HEX code. WTF?!?
im beginning to think maybe something is just wrong with my truck, but now im angry because ive been trying to get one of these things to work for over a month now. will it ever work or is it $450 down the drain. i almost want to just bag the edge and call troyer, but its just such a waste of money to not see this through, plus thats another couple months ill have to wait.

when it says to turn the key to the on position, i dont actually start the engine right? anyone know what the h*ll i should do??

List it on Ebay and call Troyer....

I had a Edge and had no problem with it, got when first released, but I didn't trust it at all... so I sold it on ebay and called Mike Troyer... got a XCal2, let him dyno my truck (he's only 2.5 hrs from me) been a Happy Camper ever sense.

I see I made a sound decision on selling it as there are still as many problems with this Edge as it was on day one....

Thats my 2 cents on Edge.....

That really sucks man. Did you trying updating the software to see if it would make any difference? Worth a shot maybe, before you called it quits and do something else.

the extra money spent on a troyer tune will more than make up for itself.

Mine did the same thing when i first put it in, frustrated the heck out of me, now it works great and wouldn't trade it for anything.

I assume you have updated the software, installed it, plugged it in, and started your truck. I never did the software at first and it did the same thing to me as you are experiencing. Are you trying to do a tune or are you just initially trying to start it??

im just trying to start it. it will turn on and goes through the disclaimer step, but will never show the trucks HEX code and eventually just turns off. i assume that because it turns on, it has the power connection. But because it fails to show the HEX code, im feeling that it might be a problem with connecting to the PCM. keep in mind that this is the second edge ive tried and they both did the same exaxt thing.

I have never had to troubleshoot my EDGE so I can't speak with a lot of authority here, but I have troubleshot a LOT of electrical problems.
1. Check ALL the fuses. I know that the cigar lighter supplies power but there may be something else that the Edge is looking for that isn't powered up.
2. Check for wiring repairs/modifications and verify they were done right. I have seen some odd ball issues that were caused when people looking for +12v tapped into twilight, door and dome light feeds that powered down after 15 seconds, when the sun came up, when the door was closed etc.
3. Check the voltage level. A test light is not the tool for this job. Use a meter and make sure that the cigar lighter voltage is staying high. 12v will probably be an actually be closer to 14v if things are working right. If it drops under 13, try to figure out why, if it drops below 12, you've got a problem somewhere. If you have a big amp etc., disconnect it.
4. Find someone with a similar truck and see if you can try the EDGE out on it. If it works ok and they see how much better their truck runs, besides proving the unit is ok, you may have found someone to sell it to if all else fails.

You did update the software correct??? It will not work unless you do this. And you do have the correct edge for your truck???

I would try driving it around for a day or two while hooked up. Sometimes the Edge needs to get used to your truck before it will work.

I would hate to see you get rid of your Edge, i know you will be happy with it when it is working.

:::When it says to turn your truck on but do not start, turn your key so that the engine does not start to crank but that all the electronics will turn on and the A/C will start to blow if it is on. You can't just turn the key to where the radio comes on you have to turn it a little further.

Check it out! This is my thread from awhile back, seems like you might have the same problem I did. Your hex may not be supported. Here is the thread. I held onto the edge for a month and almost sold it twice. I am very happy I didnt. The Edge rocks

you could be right, but my problem is different then yours because my edge refuses to even show the hex code on my truck, i can only get past the disclaimer. someone suggested i may not have turned the key all the way, so ill try that next, if that doesnt fix it then ill look into finding out my hex code. but as of right now, i cant do anything because my truck is at a dealership 200 miles from my house with a blown transmission. SWEET

but for reference, if turning the key does make it work, whats a good tune for everyday driving (around city and highway together?) the only ones im not sure on are shifting firmness and WOT fuel...i dont wanna damage my engine, especially after this transmission mishap, i cannot afford another major breakdown.

In the instruction manuel it should give a small description of what the options do.

WOT fuel basically changes how much fuel you dump into your engine when you are at wide open throttle (pedal to the metal) so upping that will probably increase your 0-60 and acceleration. Shift firmness is how firm your shifts are.
