ya i know what they do, i just dont know what to set them at to both a) increase performace over stock but also b) be safe for my tranny and engine without damaging them. putting too much fuel into the engine can casue damamge, and soft shifting hurts the tranny, but i just dont know the best numbers to set them at....

I have upped all my shift points up 3 points, and my WOT fuel i forget what its at but i think it's like 1.25 or something.

im beginning to think maybe something is just wrong with my truck, but now im angry because ive been trying to get one of these things to work for over a month now. will it ever work or is it $450 down the drain. i almost want to just bag the edge and call troyer, but its just such a waste of money to not see this through, plus thats another couple months ill have to wait.

when it says to turn the key to the on position, i dont actually start the engine right? anyone know what the h*ll i should do??
Your truck is suppose to be in the on position when you plug it in.

RTFM! Why would you purchase a device that could fry your PCM without verifying that it's compatable with your truck?

why would it not be compatible with my truck? i have a 2004, this chip is built for the 2004-2006 f150s. i dont think im turning to key all the way, im going to try again when i get my truck back.

ya i dont think i had it turned all the way. i had it turned so the radio would be on, but i think it has to go a little farther.

Yeah these have definitely improved the performance, have had it like this for a few months with no problems whatsoever. I'll write down what the other stuff i have done when i program it next time, i can't remember everything i changed. I can get 0-60 pretty fast with the lift and 35s and only the CAI for now, i know i can get faster but i have to tweak the edge some more.

He's right - RTFM and/or do a search and/or call Edge. ( And, it's not a 'chip' - it's a flash tuner - there's a big difference, ok?)

There are certain strategy codes that may not be fully supported - F150's have hundreds of strategy code revisions. It happens. Does not matter what year it is.

Oh - by the way - it's pure bunk to think the Edge (or any tuner) needs some 'run' time to be 'recognized' by the PCM - it either works, or it doesn't. Period.

yes i understand that my hex code may not be supported, but first im going to try turning the key further, that may be my problem. And yes i know its not a chip, i meant programmer, i know what a flash tuner is vs. a chip, sorry for the major typo...
and i never said it needs run time. i know it either works or doesnt, which is why i had them send me a new one right away. Ill try the key more, if that doesnt work, ill ask about my HEX code, and if it isnt supported then i will check for updates, if there are nonethen it will be on ebay.

Finally got the edge working! so far i like it, the mid range power gains are very impressive, and passing power on the highway is 10x better. there is a very noticeable drone around 2100 RPM sometimes though, not really sure what this is. Its not my flows or K&N because it sounds different, ive had those on for a month now. im still considering a troyer tune though. So far i have it on lvl2 with 87 gas, 1.25 WOT fuel, shifting firmness at +3 +3 +2, rev limiter at 5400, shifting at 5220, 5220, 4800. Does this tune sound safe??

Excellent.

What was the problem?

Yup - your settings are conservative & safe. You can go up to 5400/5300/4800 with no issues.

That drone has been reported by others with aftermarket tuning - it may be as a result of the tuning changes themselves (advance, VCT, fueling, etc) causing an already incipient resonance tendency ( your other mods) to become more pronounced.

You can prove it to youself by switching to Level 1 - it should disappear.

Good luck - very glad you got it sorted out.

BTW - tranny runing okay?

Cheers
Bubba

thanks for the positive response man. i feel much better about using the tunes now that i know they are safe. all my frustration with getting it started was very simple...i wasnt turning the key far enough stupid me. im sure your right about the drone, it just sounds different then the very slight drone my CAI and muffler make, and louder too. almost seems like its vibrating the truck. it doesnt happen too often though, maybe after a few days with the new tune it will go away.

and yes, the new tranny is SO much better. it shifts way cleaner, smoother, and never laggs/clunks like the other one (even before i put the edge on). with this new one in, it really makes it more obvious to me that my previous one was really screwed up.

I get the drone with my Edge too, even before i got the CAI, I like the noise though. Thats why i have loud speakers too. Now with my CAI and Edge the truck sounds wicked at WOT. Exhaust is next.

One setting you might try is changing the standard shift points. I found my sweet spot to be 1-2 at +2, 2-3 at +5, and 3-4 at +5.
