Another edge problem

Got my edge tuner Saturday and installed as the directions stated. At first I just did the level 3 canned tune with 93 octane in the tank and all was well(Ran quit a bit better than stock tune). Then I wanted to adjust the tire size to correct my speedo to the 33 inch Toyos, I also went to the gears and hit enter on the 3.73 selection (What I have), and raised my top speed limiter to 120. Truck ran like crap!!! It almost seemed like it was in limp mode or the e- brake was on struggling to get to 4200 rpms at wot. So, I figured it must be the tire setting and returned it to stock. Truck ran like stock no problems, Tried it again in level 3 with no custom tuning and it ran great, then just tried bumping timing .25 and left tires alone as stock (Ran like crap again). Tried updating edge today, no luck. Basically if I do anything in custom tunes it runs like crap I have tried even just raising speed limiter and it runs like crap, but again level 2 or 3 in the canned edge tune and it runs great. I really want to get to adjust my speedo for the tires so what could be wrong? I have read this forum all over and haven't seen a problem like this. My truck is a 2006 FX4 5.4 super crew any ideas?

Not yet I didn't think they were open until Monday. You can bet They will be getting a call today if I get time.

I had the same sort of thing happen to me. When I first got the Edge a couple of weeks ago, I set it on level 2 and everything was fine. I finally ran the tank down and filled up with 93 octane and loaded the level 3 tune and bumped the timing to 1.50 as suggested in the manual. I pulled out from the gas station and proceeded on a 35 MPH road and I actually thought the truck was going to quit. I had less than 1/8 of a tank of 87 octane in when I filled up with 93 and I just figured that possibly the advance in timing was too agressive. That really doesn't hold water though as I'm sure whatever fuel was in the line was burned in a short amount of time and the rest mixed with the 93 in a couple of bumps and turns later. At any rate, I pulled over into a parking lot as soon as I could and just loaded the level 3 tune with no modifications and it ran just fine. Now after reading your post I wonder if it was my setting that made it run terribly or just the fact that a custom tune was loaded.

I will try to make some minor change on the way home today and see if it has the same effect. My truck is the same year as yours as well.

I'll be interested to hear what you find out from the Edge support folks.

When I first got my Edge I had 89 octane in it. I loaded level 2 and it ran great. Later I bumped the timing 1 degree and it ran like crap. Idled funny, felt strange under accelertion, so I reloaded stock tune and it runs great. Now I just run level 3 canned tune on 93 and leave it alone.

The only other problem I've had is with the alerts. Whnever I leave the alerts on the spark alert comes on when I start it or just randomly as I drive down the road, so I keep them off now.

Otherwise, runs great.

Same Issue

This is the same issue I had posted a while back but got no input on. I thought it was possibably the "beta" I was running. Went back to the "stable" version yesterday with the same results. I did a 0-60 run and it felt like someone had taken the wind out of my sails. Did a nice 16-17 sec run have to play with the throttle to whole way. The canned tune works fine but make any custom mods. and you are screwed. I hope we can remedy this problem as we have the same truck.

Good luck,

I guess I won't be running any custom tunes then. I have a '06 F-150 like all you guys. To be honest, I've been happy with Level2 on a daily basis. I hope to run Level 3 soon to see if I noticed a big difference from Level 2 to Level 3.

Cmon guys, there has GOT to be a way to tune the thing and make it work the way it's supposed to. This is a manufacturer problem, start complaining. I was leaning towards the edge until i came up with this thread, now i'm thinking the tweecer or something similar again, especially cuz then i can change things much more.

Same problem

Same problem on my '06 F150 Screw. Stock tunes work great except for L3. L3 shudders every so often. L2 works fine and that is where I leave it. Every time I try to customize a tune, my truck runs like crap. Especially when I screw with the timing.

You guys need to email edge and tell them about your problems. That's the only way anything will get done to fix them.

I run L3 Custom, but it's on my '04.
I run 93 octane and bump the timing.

I e-mailed edge sunday night and had a response the next morning. They said they are aware of the problem and have engineers working on it, and should have a fixed update next week. I hope so because the main reason I got it was to adjust speedo for my 33s

It has nothing to do with the timing. I've tried all kinds of set ups even leaving timing alone. If I even adjust for tire size it runs crappy, tried just bumping fuel up .01 ran crappy and that's all I changed. Bottom line is if I do ANYTHING AT ALL CUSTOM TUNE, same ole story, runs crappy. Level 3, no custom tune runs great, as do 1, and 2. I feel like they will get it figured out for us we will just have to wait for the new update.

Have you guys considered it's not the Edge ? What about the PCM code ? Have you checked TSB's for driveability problems for your PCM versions.
My 05 F-150 KR Screw runs great on level 2 or 3 with tire/axle ratio/timing changed.
Do not automatically ASSUME it's the Edge causing all your problems.
A very satisfied Edge customer.
