If you wanted a fast truck you could have saved a ***** load of money and just bought a lightning
when you travel back to 2004 to buy the 2004 lightning, put every dime you can get your hands on and bet it all on the Patriots to win the super bowl.

i am so sick of that stale line, the lightning hasen't been made in 3 years.
the 5.4 remains unchanged since the 2004-2005 model year and nothing is coming for at least another year. i like the looks, ride and cost of the current f150, but when it comes to power, it gets it a$$ handed to it on a plate.

Thats how you get the 7's 0-60 times. 4.6l best hope is 10- maybe 9 without having to add a supercharger.

My bad. My truck is a 5.4 with mods and still running those times. 2006 Supercrew.

you need more mods if you think your truck is slow.

Ok, so I only ran this once a couple of nights ago so not a good sample size but I got a 6.56 0-60 running Troyer Xcal2 92 Octane tow tune with AirRaid CAI and Magnaflow SIDO. Time was measured on my Dashhawk which should be as accurate as the Edge. I want to run a few more times to get a better sample.

I agree. Pearl's okay. He even once offered me some brew & babes ! Too bad he's soooo far away. LOL!

He was asking all the right questions awhile back, about tuners & intakes, etc... and made his own decisions.

His choice. Nothing wrong with that.

Pearl - most folks here who want to help you, have been there & done that; so next time, before buying something post your intent, do the research, ask some more & get the right stuff.

If you perpetually choose to ignore good advice - it is certainly your prerogative, but it's also your loss. OK?

Happy Easter everyone. Don't have an egg smilie, so...

Good advise MGDfan

Ok using your logic can anyone tell me how the heck to save a little more $ on gas? I have installed a Volant cat back exhaust and now am considering a cold air intake and or a programmer. Are these mods going to increase my gas MPG? I have seen about a 1 MPG increae with the Volant system but that is an expensive upgrade for MPG gains. I love then truck just dont want to waste money on something that isnt gonna pay off.

I did fail to mention that i own an 06 FX4 (yes it is a 5.4L) that has plenty of power to pull anything that I own.

Also, I did a little resarch on the Tundra's after seeing all of the commercial hype and the reason that they are tough to keep up with bone stock is that you can get them with 4.10 gears and 6 speed tranny. However, they still get the same gas milage as the Fords.

Happy easter all!!

Hi.

Well, generally speaking, with the right mods, you can see some mileage gains... but typically it's a side benefit - the focus being on performance.

With a proven combo ( e.g Xcal2, AF1, maggie) -and especially on a premium octane tune, you lower BSFC (brake specific fuel consumption - seach for a detailed brief). This allows less throttle to maintain same speed, all else being equal.

I added a TP custom tuned Xcal2 - and run the premium octane perf tunes almost exclusively. I do not track mileage per se, as I just don't really care - it's a heavy-a$$ truck. But I certainly do notice a difference in it's ability to cruise with less throttle required. Truck feels "lighter" is one way to describe it.

Another huge factor is maintenance - and I mean over & above Ford's retarded schedule , which is purely in their own best interests ( TCO), not yours. Plenty of good advice on that topic here as well.

Simplistic explanation - be advised it's still a 5-6,000 truck & not an econobox - laws of physics cannot be repealed.

Try not to count on performance mods to achieve great leaps in economy - set realistic expectations.

Cheers
Bubba

problem with mods to get better mpg is the money saved is offset by the purchase price of the mods. As already mentioned some performace mods will actually improve mpg.
i would say that pulleys and electric fans are the 2 modes with the best chance of improving mpg. beauty of these 2 mods is they dont require premium fuel.

My supercrew is a 05 with 5.4 being all stock and 4 wheel drive went 16.4 but if I didn't try to dry the tires in the water box and the tires were still just alittle wet it would go 16.2. Doesn't make any sense but it did that twice. I would like to take it again someday!!!
