HELP!!! xcal2

Guys,

I am searching the forums for my answer and looking over my paperwork for the 4th time. I had an xcal2 from Troyer for my old 2002 F-150 (which I sold) and today got my new tunes for my new 2006 F-150. I went to update the tunes on the xcal2 and everything seemed fine, but when I went to install the tunes I got an error, invalid ECM or PCM or something along those lines. Was I supposed to unlock the device first before updating the tunes with live load? The unlock option was greyed out so I didn't really bother to look into it. I am hoping someone can shed some light on my ordeal while I am searching for an answer. I wouldn't be in such a hurry but I installed the AF1 3.25 intake and if I cant get this working I will have to remove it all.

Okay I do have the option to unlock the device but I get an error when trying. It states that it cannot unlock since I have not returned my old vehicle to stock. When I sold my other truck I didn't bother returning it to stock, was that wrong? Can I just use the erase device option? Getting worried that I am screwed...

I think your best bet is to call Troyer in the morning.

Yea, but I have to go to work in the morning. After looking some on SCT's website I have a bad feeling that the only person that can unlock this now is Troyer. I sure wish I would have tried to tune the truck before I ripped off the stock intake and installed the AF1. I'm feeling sick to my stomach now. :-(

PS: I am tempted to try the 'erase this device' feature in live load but I am worried I will do more harm than good. I would think that it would erase everything and then let me install my tunes but I'm not sure..

Hell, I can't erase it since it is VIN locked. I know it's my own fault for not returning my old truck to stock when I sold it. I honestly just didn't think it mattered since I had to re-purchase tunes for the new device. Now it's looking like I will have to send it to Troyer to be unlocked. Guess I am going back outside to take off the AF1.

Don't worry about it. Call Troyer and he'll get you fixed up. Disconnect your battery for a while so your truck will adapt to the air filter quicker.

NO DON'T do that!!! It will be FINE! Just take your battery loose for a while so your truck can build the new maps.

Well,

I thought I had read you do not want to run the truck with the 3.25 or 3.5 tube without the tunes do to a lean condition etc... That's what I am worried about. If I knew I could just call troyer and he could fix this over the phone or by sending me something via email I would wait, but I am 99% I will have to send this back to him....

As long as your CEL doesn't illuminate, you have nothing to worry about. You just put the thing on, why would you want to take it right back off? And if the product is that bad for your truck, why'd you even buy it? Moreover, why'd they even build it?!

Your truck will get used to whatever intake you put on it, you just have to give it time. It may run lean for a little while until the maps are adjusted, but if you want to speed the process up a lot, you can just reset the maps by disconnecting your battery for a while. The computer will then start from scratch and build the maps appropriately. Quit worrying so much. If something as simple as an air filter will break these trucks, their a lot crappier than I originally thought.

Your truck has safeguards built into it. It knows how to deal with lean conditions, and it will illuminate the CEL and take appropriate measures to protect your truck in case a lean condition persists.

just because the cel light isn't on doesn't mean a lean condition can't exist-troyers had stock running 5.4's on the dyno running as lean as 19-1 af's and no cel-as far as "moreover-why did they build it?- why did edge release an evo without covering all the tunes-hence the need for so many updates "

Well out of all the new F150's built, how many of them have they recalled for lean A/F's?! So what if its lean. Has it hurt it? If it was lean enough to cause problems, it would illuminate a CEL. If I have time tomorrow, I will do a writeup on how the computer determines what is "too lean" Jeez guys, have some faith! Ford has been tuning trucks for over 100 years!

Edit: Sorry I'm grumpy.

Hi.

Yup, grumpy... and dead wrong.

For the 15-20 minutes it takes to reinstall the stock intake, it's prudent to do so.

The tuner has already indicated, MANY times, that the 3.25"-3.5" AF1's require tune adjustments to be safe. I'd pretty much take that as gospel, given Mike's reputation.

If you do write more stuff ( on PCM's, lean conditions, risks, etc), at least make sure it's accurate - I would hate for someone to take it at face value and consequently eff something up. Suggest you consult with MT ( NOT Wikipedia - now there's a pile of smelly doo-doo), to get the facts nailed. Everyone will thank you.

EDIT: here's a very recent thread discussing intakes - glean what you can from this and add the facts to your guide: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...18&postcount=5

If you don't wisht to, then perhaps a disclaimer at the top of your guide(s) is in order... to wit:

*** This guide may contain facts, fallacies, hearsay, innuendo, BS, peanuts, animal byproducts, opinions and skewed perceptions - Use at your own Risk !!! ***

Chester, I commend you on your efforts, but at times you remind me of that Faster150 idiot - despite acknowledged experts attempting to address /correct the facts, you at times persist in mis-stating those same facts. You don't wanno go there, do ya? I'd like to think you are above that guy's IQ & behaviour patterns.

Please take this as constructive criticism only, okay? - I think your heart is in the right place. Thanks.

Cheers
Bubba

You sure seem to have trouble with Mikes instructions that everyone SHOULD read ALL the documentation that comes with the XCal2..
