SB intake for 04+

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/S-B-C...QQcmdZViewItem

Is this a good intake, I think that the box around the filter would help alot with the offroad crowd b/c it looks like it would be hard for water to get in there.

Ive neve seen one like this before. I know they are working on a CAI for the 5.4.

But if you have the box convering the filter, what is the advantage vs the stock unit? Why not spend 40 bucks on a K&N and call it a day if you are just going to enclose the filter anyway?

I have had S&B on both of my diesels, I know its not the same, but they produce a great quality product. I guess if youy want to throw away money and get an open element air filter intake like K&N go for it, but here in Houston when it gets hot, that box really helps keep the heat out of the motor. I have a couple of friends who have the 5.4's one has a Airaid CAI and one has a S&B, but both have the Edge. The engine temps vary in summer about 7-9 degrees hotter with the Airaid, not much but it helps. As for performance they are side by side...

I have have the S&B intake on my truck and i really like it....It is not too loud like some of the other open element intakes, but still sounds beefy. I have not had any other intakes in the past so i cant compare, but i do feel that it has added some low end power, esp at take off....ON top of it all i think it looks great and its easy to install...On another note i just ordered an Edge Evo to go with it, which should be here in about a day or so...hopefully this will also increase my driving **wow** factor...any questions about the S&B just email me... fiveoh108@sbcglobal.net

HI JNC995,

Yes, for the hard-core off-roader, having that box could prevent water from getting it as easily, but only if you're really in high water - and it's not water-tight, don't get that impression.

We have been a distributor for S&B for years - they make some of the best air filter elements on the market, however, for an intake kit for these trucks, the Air Force One (which uses the S&B air filter element) does a much better job of actually making power than the S&B, or especially something like the K&N or the Volant - when we did one of our last dyno days, we had some guys here with the Volant, and once they saw how the Volant strangled power off once the rpms came up compared to the Air Force One, several of them changed intakes on the spot to the Air Force One.

If you'd like to go over any of this in more detail so that you have full info and can make an informed decision, just give us a call, as we distribute the S&B product as well - personally, my choice is the Air Force One, but if you feel the S&B would do a better job for your particular needs, we can supply that as well - just give us a call at our number listed below.
