I know you are very irritated; but, I don't understand this statement. Perhaps I missed something. I was only offering to help you gather data and perhaps make some sense of it. Yes. I have gone to the Pro Racer Software and do my own tuning; but, if you understood I was offering to help you with the tune, sorry that isn't my game. I am not skilled enough to do what Troyer and others do. I tune only the F150s in my family where I can go through trial and error.

Sorry for the misunderstanding and good luck.

Just so you are aware, nobody can adjust Mikes tuning. If someone is going to attempt to retune your truck they will have to have the knowledge and ability to rewrite the entire programming in the XCal2..

I'm just waiting for Mike to see this and tell the whole story, even though he's said many a time before that THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Crafter: Did you send your data logs in within 30 days of getting your gear? If you read the doc's that come with the equipment it makes mention of the 30 day time limit.... after that you go back to the end of the line, and with just finishing a huge group buy AND then Christmas time I don't doubt that it could take several weeks to get to your tune. Did you be sure to give more than just the dyno chart? IE did you get the tabular data, just all the numbers no graph?

Also, you bought a CUSTOM tune, not a one-size-fits-all off the shelf tune. You should have expected to HAVE to data log and should have EXPECTED to pay for that.

As other posters have said, if you're that concerned, reload your stock tune until you get your new tune from Mike.

If you still feel cheated I'll be happy to call the Waaaaaahmbulance for you.

Yes, it was your ignorance that led to your situation. Not trying to be an A$$ but if you really did any research or read any of the documentation that troyer sent you'd have known you are supposed to data log. If you can't drop $100 for a couple dyno runs, maybe you shouldn't have dropped the $500+ for the tunes.. for that matter maybe you should have just bought a Saturn. By the way, the dyno runs take maybe 30 min, it only cost me $70 for 3 runs. Suck it up and do it right.

Happy New Years Everyone!!

First off. You are correct on point 1. Unless a SCT Dealer is willing to supply the files utilized to create the tune, they cannot be modified. Some SCT Dealers will and some won't. But... What are you trying to say with "rewrite the entire programming in the XCal2". I really think you are trying to say "overwrite the existing tunes" with new tunes. If that was the message you were trying to send then you are correct.

When downloading a tune to an XCAL II for these vehicles, the entire program for a specific PCM code is not altered. That is why SCT needs to know the PCM code for any vehicle before doing any custom tuning. The base PCM specific program includes a number of parameters which would never be altered. Examples of this include most of the "scalar misc swtiches", most of the "scalar system_swtiches", most wouldn't fool with the "Exhaust Temp tables" without specifics and a pyrometer, just to name a few. Of course, there are more.

Recently, I was reading through a number of Kenne Bell technical articles. It is their opinion that bolt ons don't add much in the way of HP and TRQ and that air/fuel and ignition timing are all that need to be modified to make more of either. Kind of a simple approach don't you think ? Of course, Mike does an awesome job with tuning the transmissions in these trucks and in my opinion, this is what sets his work apart from the majority of other tuners int he industry.

I have seen a number of these type of complaints. Most do not understand the datalogging and dyno requirement. They are just so excited about getting the new tune. I was one of those. You may recall I loved the WOT response; but, hated the driveability. I didn't understand the datalogging requirement or really how to do it. Livelink was not performing very well. I was very angry with Mike when he told me he owed me nothing. When I started doing my own, datalogging became something I couldn't live without. I spend hours comparing logs, adjusting, sometimes just tinkering. It is absolutely impossible to tweak a tune without feedback. If you can feel something wrong in the truck, the data logs will likely show it. Once it is identified, it can be fixed.

Crafter is frustrated and having been there, I understand his frustration. All I was attempting to do was help him gather and identify what was going on. I personally think he his making a huge mistake by going to a local dyno shop and have them tune his truck. Unless the shop has specific knowledge about tuning these trucks, I do not think he will be happy with that tuning either. I work with a SCT Dealer locally who is exceptional at tuning Mustangs. He has offered me tons of advice, taught me a lot about tuning; but, does not tune F150s. I believe he could; but, apparently that isn't his niche.

so this being said you cannot overwrite the tunes in the xcal2 from troyer correct? does the protuner software write directly to the pcm in the truck or is something such as the xcal2 still needed to write the pcm.

First off I would have never posted this here if the CUSTOMER SERVICE would have addressed anything in the past 2 MONTHS.

Second I was told that I shouldnt go back to the stock tune with the stage 2 kit. I wish I could.

Third NCSU if you could read you would have seen that I had no problem spending the money at the dyno and datalogging and never complained about having to do it except for the fact that after doing it I have had NO resolution to my problems. Also as stated earlier if they needed more info all they would have had to do is CALL. They have never indicated they didnt have the right information. So go drive your waaambulance in a creek.

Crafter,
Not to get in the middle of anything here, something is amiss.Have you told us the whole story?Sounds like a detail or two might be missing.I just don't see Mike leaving you hang like this, unless he said something to you in the conversation that you missed or didn't pick up on.Something that you still need to send him, was the info on a floppy, were the A/F's included.Something!Good luck but call again.
Remember wodded panties only restrict airflow, which only causes a fowl odor over time!!

Agreed!!! Something is missing in his story. You can find other posts where people bitch at Mike for one thing or another, then Mike comes in, tells the rest of the story and suddenly everything makes alot more sense.

Crafter: You never answered my questions about when you sent in your data and if you sent tabular data. Fishy....

2005 FX4 in Ca: Its not the XCal2 that anyone has problems with, its the tunes that come with it. Some tuners don't know how to tune a F150, so people complain about the XCal2. If you look around this forum you'll find 99% of the people with Mike Troyers tunes LOVE THEM and have NO problems. That'd being said, you can't please everyone all of the time. You'll have people like Crafter who poopoo MT but I'll put my truck with his tunes against any other tuner any day of the week.

From Troyers Website Under The Xcal2.

"3.) Our detailed yet easy to understand (written for everyone from a first-time novice all the way up to the experienced datalogger) Troyer Performance step-by-step 14 page set of datalogging instructions. This is provided to all our custom tuning customers whether they actually need to datalog their vehicle or not. Note: datalogging is only required in “significantly” modified vehicles, meaning vehicles where the mechanical configuration/modifications have caused changes in the Air/Fuel ratios (such as a supercharger, nitrous oxide, aftermarket MAF meter, larger fuel injectors, etc.), or if you desire changes to be made to your custom tuning at some point after you receive it. In almost all cases, even in “significantly” modified vehicles, we will still provide you with “baseline” custom tuning you can use BEFORE you datalog so that you can immediately operate your vehicle. We also go over with each customer, in advance, whether or not they will actually need to datalog – (and for most “daily drivers,” that process is optional, not required unless subsequent engine tuning changes are requested after receiving your custom tuning). "

I thought this needed to be posted as not to confuse those with a stock vehicle to those with a modified vehicle.

Very true... now whether you call a Stage 2 "significantly" modified is up for debate....
"This package includes the "Top 5" best bang for the buck mods - starting off with our famous Troyer Performance custom tuning, featuring 3 different custom-tuned performance programs for your vehicle's PCM (Powertrain Control Module) provided in a convenient & reversible hand-held flash device with full email update and high-speed data logging capabilities! Then comes a complete replacement of the air intake tract system, as well as a complete replacement T304 aircraft-grade stainless steel cat-back exhaust system. Next comes our set of underdrive pulleys, and our complete Troyer Performance Dual 16" electric fan kit, using the very best available components."

To me that seems like a fairly big change from stock and would therefore require datalogging. Hell, even with just an air intake I'd want to data log since, as TP has pointed out, new F150 can come running lean directly from the factory. So if you added a new intake, it's almost to be expected that you'd throw a lean code. Now the baseline tune will allow the truck to run, but you'd still need hard data to see what/if changes need to be made.
