not convinced!
HI jmt0645,
Frankly, I'm not surprised at your father's reaction to the Hypertech tuning, or to any "canned" off the shelf type of device - they don't do as much to improve performance as our in-depth custom tuning does, nor should it be expected to, just as we demonstrated in one of our public dyno days where we took a few stock vehicles and showed everyone what various canned tunes did versus our custom tuning. But then we have specialized in tuning these F-series trucks for 15 years, far longer than anyone else, so we are well known for our results.
I DO agree with those telling you that he needs to drive the vehicle tuned for a longer period of time - at least a week or more, and then go back to stock - just a short drive or two really isn't enough to make a "doubting Thomas" change their mind, you need to drive the vehicle over time and in a lot of different types of driving to really get a feel for how much better it is with a competent tune.
The thing to remember is that tuning is NOT going to make a 3-ton pickup truck suddenly turn into a rocketship - and nobody should expect it to. That does not, however, change the fact that a good thorough tune is by far the single best bang for the buck performance enhancement that can be made to almost any computer-controlled vehicle.
Remember that there are some people are simply cannot feel a 30 Hp gain in the seat of the pants on a 2.5-3 ton truck - this is precisely why our documentation clearly points out NOT to try to compare any performance enhancement via the seat of the pants, that is the world's *wost* way to compare - the thing to do is to do timed acceleration runs just like another poster did and just as we advise in our docs - in a controlled manner, so that you can see just how much difference it actually makes. We drop 7-12 tenths off the 1/4 mile times of these big trucks with our tuning alone, and it does not feel like that in the seat of the pants, because we work do hard on keeping the vehicle feeling smooth, too - but the times don't ;lie - we make all of these trucks perform better and as long as you keep your foot out of the firewall, it will generally get better fuel mileage, too.
That's the best I can tell you, and we wish you & your dad the best.

Mike, you ever think about setting up a web cam page on dyno days?alot of us would love to watch
maybe a cam shot showing dyno screen and truck at same time
i would love to make it there some day but one heck of a ride from here.
Total Est. Time: 11 hours, 28 minutes Total Est. Distance: 693.48 miles

I put the underdrive pulleys, Magnaflow SISO exhaust and electric fans on truck and ran it for well over a month like that waiting for my tunes for the Xcal2. Today I put the Airforce One 3.25 intake on and downloaded the 87 tow tune to the truck. I have a 93 tow and 93 permformance tune also. While I have not driven the truck enough for it to "learn" my driving style, if you cannot notice this, then keep your money because you will not be happy.
For reference I am a 37 yr old married male with a 2 1/2 yr old daughter and a dog. I am also a lawyer. I don't mod my cars but, this was very worth while and I have not even hit the 93 performance tunes yet.

). Thanks.
I think the real way is to let him drive your truck (and I know this is the hard part) for about a week with the tunes. THEN, take it away. Believe me, he'll find himself lurching in the seat because he will be accustomed to the "unrealized" performance he had, and will REALLY notice the slug he now owns. I had friends doubt my diesels that were tweaked. It's alot harder to wean yourself off something you have lived with daily, than something you have once in a while. The realization of performance will come after he no longer has it, rather than just letting him try it. Go for a Saturday drive somewhere for a few hours, or the day. Then, take him back to his rig and he can see for himself the difference when he drives away in his own.
Good Luck. And Dad... my father-in-law was the same way... I stress WAS. And I don't even have my Troyer Tunes yet.

The fun comes when your truck is up there and you get to see the numbers come up on the screen or hanging out and talking to the guys waiting their turn.
