Best spark plug for my engine.
Hi Built54,
generally speaking, as far as the gap goes, you want to run the largest gap you can without encountering spark blowout at the highest rpms. I don't recall our conversation in that regard, I may have felt that you needed to run it a bit tighter, I really cannot remember. But just sitting here now thinking about this, even with 10.5:1 compression, I would say that 045 is probably OK.
Now with regard to upgrading the coil packs, I am a BIG fan of doing that - we use the GMS col packs on everyone of our vehicles, and we couldn't be happier - we can run larger gaps, and make more power compared to the stock Ford COP coil packs, and they're much less expensive than the Ford units as well. Please feel free to give us a call on that if you want to go over the coil packs in more detail, OK?
I hope that info helps, & good luck!

Well I finally got the new plugs in today! WOW what a difference! At idle, its smooth as silk! I cant believe how smooth it runs. Now once it got warmed up, i got on it, and i can really feel it pulling harder. Its almost 60* out side right now, and usually when its this warm out, it doesn't run near as good as if it was 30* out, but now it runs better than it ever has in any temperature. The plugs i took out were burned between 60-65 gap! They were in desperate need of changing. I really hope I get a couple more mpg on the highway... Ill find out next weekend.
Excellent results, glad you like them.
It's amazing how few people replace their plugs like they should, but then, that is really the automakers fault for telling them the plugs are god for 10K miles - NO plug is good for 10 K miles, that is nonsense.
We recommend changing any plug at not more than about 30K miles, regardless of it's material, and for copper plugs, about every 12-15K miles - that way you will get much better performance, MPG, idle quality, etc.
Congrats on your results, built 54!
