Does new gears = new tune?

I've been thinking about changing out my 3.73 gears to 4.56 but was wondering if I needed new tunes (I've got an Troyer tuned XCal2) as well. Just trying to get an idea of the overall cost. Thanks,

the only reason for a tune would be to correct your speedo...

You don't need a whole new tune to change the gear ratio set on the pcm do you? Should just be a setting in the Xcal right?

Assuming we're talkin about the XCal2, when you go to load the tunes you already have and the options menu comes up before uploading them, you need to scroll through that menu and find where it says something like axle ratio or axle gear (something to that effect) and select your gear ratio so it can adjust.

So to answer the question, no you don't need to order new tunes from Mike T.. Axle gear ratio selection is a user adjustable option on the XCal2.

AWESOME! Thanks for the quick relies, that's cool that its user adjustable. My tune from Troyer was so good right off the bat that I've never went back and tried any of the options (Thanks again Mike!!).

Hi flyfish,

You're very welcome, & glad to hear you are enjoying our custom tuning!

We set up the device so that you can recalibrate the speedometer yourself for changes to both tire size and gear ratio - and when you do that, it automatically corrects the speedometer, odometer, and the shift points in automatic transmission models - so we do not need to send you new tunes, you can just dial that in yourself with the XCalibrator 2!
