Just ordered the Xcal but Im a little confused!!!

Well I finally did it. I took the plunge and ordered the Xcal on the group buy. Thanks Mike for giving us all a great deal. I can now blame you for the decrease in my bank account this month..lol

Anyway, there were so many options for which tunes to have loaded in it I think I've confused myself. I called back today to change what I originally told them I wanted and now I've been sitting here all night wondering if I made the right decision still. My first choice was 87 tow, 87 performance and 93 Performance. I then changed my mind and as it stands now it will be, 87 tow, 93 tow and 93 Perf. I do tow, but not alot and its usually at the spur of the moment. Very rarely is a tow a "scheduled" thing for me. So it would be easy to switch from the 93 tow and perf when needed. But then do I need the 87 tow? I've heard theres another 93 drag tune. What is this, do I need it, would I use it. Should I stick to having the one 87 tow tune? I'm a little confused right now and want to make sure I'm making the right decision.

I'm not concerned on getting a quality product, as Mikes reputation is what drew me to the Troyer tuned Xcal. I know whatever I get from him will be great. I just want it to be great "for me" for what "I want". I was unable to talk to Mike about this since he was busy, as to be expected. So I'm turning to you guys. Anyone who has the tuner please let me know what tunes you have, if you're happy with them and if my choice on the 87tow, 93tow and 93 perf is a good choice.

Thanks

If you don't tow that often, then why not just get 1 towing tune? And since when you do tow, it's spur of the moment, I'd go with the 87 octane tow tune. That way if you running the 87 performance tune, and you decide to tow, you won't be stuck with having to fill up with 91.

bamorris..I hear ya and considered that as my first option. My concern is, I will try the 93 performance tune and like it so much I wont want to go back to the 87 tune..lol. If it cost me an extra $15 to $20 every two weeks in gas to be happy and have "fun" than to me, its well worth it...hmm, decisions, decisions.

I have 87 performance, 93 tow and 93 performance.... and would use stock tuning as 87 tow if needed... I very rarely tow anything......
when I received my tuner, I loaded 93 performance and have never looked back......

well I ordered the 87 tow, 93 tow and 93 performance. I tow a 6000lb boat around all summer so it usually stays in the tow tune. When I first got my tunes I still had 87 in the tank and I ran that tune, I then filled up with 93 and loaded the 93 tow tune. I couldnt of been happier..... until I loaded the 93 performance tune.....WOW is all I can say and that is the tune I run now. I will start the tune change when I am hooking up my boat but as soon as I am done boating I go back to the 93 performance tune. I am now considering ordering the 93 Drag/Race tune from mike and pull the 87 out all together.

Now for my wifes truck I am thinking of buying the group buy for her and since she only wants to run 87, I am going to order her the 87 tow, 87 perf and 93 perf.

Since I have gone to the 93 tunes I will not go back to 87 and just pay the extra at the pump to have the power at my feet. Hope this helps ya!

I just ordered one too. 87 tow, I figure this will run and shift far better than stock, whether towing or empty. 91 tow and 91 perf. as 93 is not available where I live. I imagine I'll fill it with 91 and never load the 87, but it will be there if I need or want it. Can't wait. Congrats on yours.

I got 87 Perf and Tow and 93 performance.

Big mistake....I went to 93 perf and wont go back. Eventually I'll get around to calling and getting a price on the 93 Tow...hey I wonder if I get can get group buy pricing on a single tune.

Guess I won't be able to smoke you on our next Paragon trip huh?

Unless you're on a drag strip, WFO, isn't the 93 tow a better all around tune to use for everyday driving?

That's the one I use.

I have an 87 performance, a 93 tow, and a 93 performance. I don’t tow regularly either and I usually run the 93-performance tune; it’s my favorite.

I can always switch to stock to tow if I get caught short with 87 in the tank

Well, goofus, you are overlooking the obvious. Just order 2 tuners and you will have 6 tunes. That way you will never wonder if you did the right thing. It's just money and you will waste it anyhow, so go for it. All that beer has killed off a few cells. Good grief.

You can't go back to the stock tune if you have the 3.25 AF1, this would cause you to go lean and pull a CEL. If you're going with the 3.25 AF1 you can only go back to the stock tune if you remove the AF1 and put the stock intake back on.

I bought the 3.25 AF1 over the 3 to get more power.

I rarely tow as well and when I do it, it's never planned out.

I went with the:
91 perf tune (hard to find 92 and 93 in MN)
87 perf tune
87 tow tune

I confirmed with Crystal at TP, that you can run the 87 tow tune with 91 octane in the tank (in the event you're running the high octane tune and with high octane in the tank but need to suddenly tow). While it's not preferred it is safe and won't hurt the truck if you're not going on a 100 plus mile trip with 5000+ lbs being towed.

Actually Goofus, I can order all the tunes and store them on my hard drive. Then load them into the programmer as I need them...

But I dont want to do that. I just want to make sure I make the right decision this time, ya know??

I just want to point out a problem with the title of this thread. You say you are a little confused as if that is an abnormal state for you. Some people may not even open the thread as they look at it and say, well, ok, Brew is doing just fine, he is his normal self. One other thing, I doubt that you are just a little confused. It is kind of like being pregnant, you can't be just a little. You are either confused or you aren't, and you are.
