The heating element portion of the circuit has a fault.
Plugup, harness or the ox element is faulty.
Time to get a meter and see what's going on.

Well I took the rear O2's out and replaced them after work today and then drove about 20 miles with no DTC that's sweet but the real test is tomorrow with a cold start that's when the code triggers

You changed the rear O2's? The front (upstream) O2's are the ones that would have been causing the codes..Changing the rear ones should not change anything....
This whole thing is not making much sense to me.....

Exclamation

Bootleg,
I came across your thread 'Tuner Blues'. I just got the same P0054 code on my way home from MS today. I have a similar Troyer setup. What was the resolution to get the code to clear and the engine service light to clear? Thanks for the help.

Dave

Code 54 is specificlly bank 1 sensor 2 (heater) resistance.
Pretty specific.
The PCM detected a static electrical fault not a dynamic operating fault of the sensor. Could even be a plug or harness fault.
The rear sensor has to be heated for it to respond fast enough for the application of compairing the output oxygen level, after the cat, to the front sensor via the PCM.
This set up, in effect, detects how well the cat is working to clean up the exhaust.
Normally nothing to do with a tuner.

Bluegrass,
Thank you for your response. I've been reading through bootleg's thread 'Tuner Blues'. His problem was bad O2 sensors. After he changed them out, the P0054 code cleared. I'm thinking that I have one or more bad sensors myself. I just rolled 100,000 miles today after getting home from MS. I found the Bosch sensors and got a price from Autozones website. How hard are they to change out? I don't have access to a lift. What size wrench is needed. Thanks again for the help.

Dave
