Superchips technical Question
Superchips technical Question
I have a 1745 ( I think thats the model for my 2005 F150). Installed it just fine but it did not come with directions. Here's my question: To test the tuner, I did a high speed run and the governor seems to still kick in. Is there a way I can check to see if the tuning program took? How do I turn this back to stock and start again? If it were VIN locked from something/someone else, it would say so when I plugged it in initially, right? Any help would be appricated.
And for those who say why are you going so fast. I only did it to verify the program took as I removed top speed governor. No other way to test that I am aware of...and out by me in BFE Iowa 100 mph is nothing

Here's a link to the 1745 manual in PDF format (all the manuals are available online - www.superchips.com)

Yes - if it were VIN-locked, it would tell you.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the link. Didn't see my issue listed but will verify the wording as VIN locked when I hook it back up. Hopefully I haven't been running 91 Octane for nothing!
Well, first off, you need to disable Overdrive to even be able to tell if your top speed limiter has actually been removed - you do not have enough power to hit those speeds in Overdrive, the truck can't get up to pull enough rpms in 4th gear to do that - top speed testing on these F-150's needs to be done in 3rd gear in the automatics, 4th gear in the 5-speed manuals.
Second - as long as it did not tell you that you were VIN-locked, and you did the upload properly (and it would have told you if you didn't), it took the tune and the top speed limiter is indeed affected.
Good luck!

Tried it again last night and it definitely cut out at just a hair over 100. I was in 3rd gear. Cut off was rather abrupt and the truck was still pulling moderately hard.
Think I need to remove and reinstall the tune?

Did you modify both the rev limiter and the speed limiter? If you didn't do revs, that might be the wall you are hitting.

I did NOT modify rev limiter. Didn't want to find myself not hitting a rev limiter and blowing the engine. The revs weren't that high at 100 in 3rd. Maybe like 4K? Didn't want to get arrested so I didn't stay at that speed too long.
