Troyer Performance - MPG Went Down

but the FUN factor went way up. All I can say is WOW! Thanks for putting the fun and performance back in my truck. I got the intake and tunes loaded in about 2 hours and things are great. For all those that are still waiting - stay calm. It is well worth the wait.

You may find that your mileage is down because you are having too much fun and getting on the gas more often with the new found power.
In real terms on a mild tune up, you are producing more power, so really you don't need to give it as much gas as before.
My mileage actually went up (if I drive normally) after I installed my tune from MT.

Yep, when your mpg goes down and the fun factor goes up, that’s a good thing

Overall mine went "down" by .4 MPG, however, I now drive it like I stole it 100% of the time. Before I babied it like crazy to get 12.3 not I get 11.9 consistently while racing around. Before, if I raced it like I do now I was getting 10.5~

Also, I have tried to go easy for a tank or two and noticed it climbed to just shy of 13.5mpg with 90% city driving.

I don't know guys, my mileage seems pretty good with the Troyer tunes.

A few weeks ago we did a trip to and from Maine, about 400 miles. Most of it is highway. I averaged 80mph, and tipped into the boost whenever "necessary" . That trip I averaged 17.29mpg. That was on the "street performance" tune.

We just took a long weekend camping in southern NH. We spent a bunch of time driving between the Keen NH area and the Brattleboro VT area. Great weather. Nice twisty back roads, with little traffic. A majority of this trip was back roads, about 270mi, and I averaged 15.28mpg. This was on the "max performance" tune, and I've got to tell you, this tune is AWSOME! I had such a blast!

I know some of you see a drop in mileage, but many of the trucks sharing the configuration with mine are getting much poorer mileage. I don't know, maybe I just drive like a grandpa compared to the others. I don't think so though.

I guess the saying is correct: "if your going to play you have to pay." One way or another.

Wow. You guys need to get a 2003 HD like mine.
I get 18mpg on mixed driving around town and recorded a best of 26mpg on a very long run with the cruise control set at 70mph.
This is on the "Race Tune" which is all I run
I think this is excellent for a truck in the mid 13's

I agree! That's awesome mileage. If I was getting that kind of mileage I wouldn't feel as guilty driving my F150 all the time.

Nah, gas now costs just over $7.00 per gallon here in England now and I still don't feel guilty.
I'm trying to do my bit for Global Warming so we get some decent weather now and again

Higher MPG is alot easier with a 2WD truck...

Us guys with the 4 doors, AND 4 on the floor tend to suffer a bit.

I will tell you, I do get mid 13s MPG with the 91 max tune, and mid 14s MPG with the 87 max tune.

Let me clarify. I know EXACTLY why the mileage went down. I am on it every chance I get. Hopefully I'll get this out of my system in a few months - NOT!.....

Look for me on Pinks!

Hi kgrutzmacher,

Thanks for your post - it cracked me up!

That is typical of the initial reaction our customers tend to have when installing out tuning - they get "happy foot" and can't seem to keep their foot out of the firewall enjoying the new power & performance levels.

Now of course, *if and when* driving returns back to a "more normal" level (if there is such a thing), then the mpg will come right back up as well - in fact, you should actually see a bit of an improvement under those conditions - if you ever get to that point!

Is this by pencil? Gas quality can throw it off by .4 mpg. I try to stay below 2k rpms and I do great.
