Hi everyone,

First for Justin - THANK YOU for your post - I think that will help a lot of people understand why we in many cases will call the owner and send the unit out blank so they can read the actual strategy, as that saves us doing a set of tunes based on the original code sticker, only to get a no-start and cause a need for us to have to do a whole new different set of custom tunes at their expense and additional time delay.

Thanks very much for your comments about how much it improves after a short period for the PCM to "learn" it's new programming, as it is quite a difference. In our last Dyno day, without turning the engine off, one of the 5.4 3V F-150's made almost 10 more RWHP from the first dyno pull to the second, and there was only 4-5 minutes in time difference (and yes, we datalogged all the powertrain temps and got the same ECT, engine oil & tranny fluid temps). Adaptive strategy goes to work quicker in some trucks than it does in others, which is why in our docs we tell people to be prepared for it to take a few hundred miles and 6-12 drive cycles - many times it's quicker, but it does indeed vary!

Great post, Justin, thank you!

Now for Danoshere - as you can see, we have a good idea of which trucks are potential reflashes and which are not - and 70% of the time we are right - yours has a code that tends to be reflashed, so we've called you and let you know that we're sending it out blank so you can read that strategy for us, so that we can get it right the first time, so that we don't irritate you with addition await for a second set of tunes because ht first ones didn't work due to an undocumented reflash - which, as we can all see from Justin's kind and very informative post, can happen even at the factory before the truck even hits the dealership, or at the dealership before the first owner takes delivery - and all without the owner ever knowing about it. SO what we do SAVES a lot of potential trouble.

And as soon as we get that info, we'll do the tunes, and send them out via email along with some links & info to help you get your XCal 2's USB driver's downloaded & installed on your PC, so that you can then load the tunes we'll be emailing you.

Great post, Justin, I really thank you for that - hopefully a lot of people will see it and understand just why this is so important. It became critically important starting in July of 2005 on the 2004 & newer F-150's, as Ford started changing the Equizzer ID in all their reflashes - which meant that in most cases, we cannot just tune those reflashed vehicles according to the original computer code, as either the ID wont' match or it won't have an Equizzer ID in the tune, etc.

Thanks everyone!

well, if you are committed to the XC2, give troyer performance a call-discuss the matter, and place your order. they will not ship out a blank tuner unless you purchase the tuning
