XCAL2 rev.

Ok, so im sure im not the only one who is contemplating a tuner- whether it be the edge, xc2, diablo, or else...
First- for XC2 buyers- If you fill out your paperwork, and when your turn comes, you get a phone call saying that a tuner is on the way to verify your PCM strategy, don't say but, but...they know what they're talking about. I've never reflashed my truck from its original TEM7 strategy, last week I got the call from Mike that he thinks that my truck has most likely been reflashed--prior to even taking delivery... he was right, im BKP1 strategy instead...

now, for the on the fence folks- i thought my truck ran great, i thought the acceleration in my case was great- i've been in a few friends' f150's and they sucked compared to mine, the gas milage left a bit to be desired, but my truck outperformed all my friends rigs. well, I ordered May 1st, got my tunes this afternoon, and immediately hooked 'er up- 87 tow, 87 max, 93 max.. loaded the 87 max and gave her a spin- my off the line accel, is slightly slower than stock, but thats the fact that the pcm hasn't relearned (im not worried) but after that first second- HOLY CRAP 95mph in 2nd (in Drive, not 2nd), 0-60 in fast- haven't clocked it yet, but it seems preeeetttty low like 6-8 sec... the shifts are firm, and come around 5k rpm--right where they should've been stock-- I think I have a whole nother truck now, its amazing i knew there was more in that massive v8 to be had, and well, now i have it!!
Thanks Mike, Anita, Crystal, Neil, and to all the folks here which helped pursuade me
Justin

Thanks for the feedback Justin...This is reassuring that I've gone the right route in getting the Xcal 2 and AF1...should have mines in a couple of weeks...

well, there are, according to mike a handful of strategy codes that made it into trucks at the factory, but either before they were shipped, or immediately upon arrival at the dealer were reflashed, and not given an updated sticker...so my sticker said TEM7, but Mike balked at that, asked me to verify that code so that he didn't send the tunes out, and lock my truck- well, he was right, my code was reset at some point prior to me recieving my Z-Plan, Ordered truck, as the actual PCM strategy for my truck is BKP1.

yea, the pcm code (strategy) is needed to get the right base tune for your truck... its like a driver on your computer, you need to know which driver version you have so that you can get the correct revisions to keep your truck running.

Ditto to that. Properly tuned, these trucks really get up and go; it’s like night and day. I’ve been running my Troyer custom tunes since December of 04 and they still feel fresh and as impressive as day one

Yup, same here, my 05 Lariat had a TEM7 pcm code and needed to be reflashed to correct a bad 1-2 upshift. Dealer never put an updated sticker on it with the new code. It was flashed to a BKP1 just like you say. My brother had a TEM6 with same trans shift problem and also was flashed to BKP1. ( build dates of trucks 1/05 and 12/04 ). My Troyer tuned xcal2 at that time was also done on a BKP1 base. ( but I had the calibration part number on my pcm reflash receipt from the dealer that mapped to the BKP1 )
Run that 87 octane down and just load the 93 perf. You'll never go back!

Should I worry?

OK now you guys have me worried. My truck was manufactured in Feb 05, but sat on the lot until October when I bought it. How would you find out, other than asking the dealer (who probably won't know or have a record of it) if it was reflashed?

I doubt mine was because it dogs really bad off the line from first to second and also second to third, but still if they reflash and don't replace the sticker how could another dealer know it had been reflashed? S%#T!

well, if you are unsure, (where are you in the whole process...beginning, or end?)
call up troyer, explain that you might be unsure of the code, and when they get to you, ask them to send the blank tuner to you, plug it in, read the strategy, call them with the hex code it gives you, and you will get your tunes, in the same amount of time if you didn't...no big deal bro-- it'd be better to know for sure, than to plug in the tuner and have it corrupt and fail to start because the pcm codes don't match

I am near the end, I think. Ordered on 24 May *I think*...don't have the e-mails on this computer.
Good point tho....I think I'll have Mike either send me the tuner empty or I'll read the code before I load the tunes.

Thanks BalogUK!

Well Crystal called me today to tell me that they are sending me a blank unit so I can read the actual software load before they send me my tunes. I guess Mike has run into enough reflashed and not restickered PCMs that he's taking no chances. I'm glad I went with TP for this reason --> Great customer service!

Still can't hardly wait for my tunes...woot!
