Look just downstream behind the exhaust manifold. The bolted in O2 sensor is located upstream in front of the catalytic converter. Unbolt and disconnect O2 wires about a foot up. Then replace.

Upstreams are not fun....I would have a mechanic do them if I could do it over...

Piece of cake on the F-250's.

Note: If you change them yourself, unplug them first, then loosen and unscrew.

You should find 4 O2 sensors.

One sensor on each side between the exhaust manifold and the first converter, and one sensor after the first converter on each side.

I just changed my 'upstream' O2 sensors. It was challenging, but not impossible. Perform a seach for some detailed instructions if you wish to do it yourself.

I used a 7/8 box end wrench and cut part of the connector off so I could slide the wrench over the O2 wire.

The passenger side is the most challenging!

The 1997 & Up F-150 uses 4 )2 sensors, only 2 of which we are concerned with - and those are the "upstream," or "front" O2 sensors - that means the O2 sensor on each side of the engine that is in the exhaust BEFORE the exhaust reaches the first catalytic converter.

It requires a special O2 sensors socket to do it right, and I recommend using some penetrant on there and letting them sit for a little while after spraying the penetrant before attempting to remove, as they can tend to be quite stubborn.
