With the Xcal2, you only have user adjustability of the parameters that whoever does you tuning allows on your device. There is not a big difference between the two as far as user adjustability goes. The difference is the Edge has to be compatible with ALL the PCM codes, where the Xcal2 is calibrated for your specific PCM code. With proper custom tuning, there is no need to use the adjustability of the Xcal2 other than for changes in gearing and tire size.

You can not monitor A/F ratios with the Xcal2 alone. To do that requires either a wideband A/F monitor, or a trip to the dyno.

I think the point needs to be made that you cant lean out the WOT fuel edge parameter lower than the default. But if the default is lean..... That's why i have 1.8 Fuel multiplier in there now. I can go lower to 1.5 ( i think) when i dyno it..

What affect does that have on your A/F ratio? Do you KNOW it's safe or just guessing?

Since i have no data. I am guessing, just like everyone else for that matter. Apparently, you are guessing when you drive off of the lot. I would take out the spark plug and get a read on that but..... dont want to take the heads off just yet.

Thinking back, all of these people getting oversensitive check engine lights with the AF1 indicating a lean condition, but nobody getting them with a tuner. HMMMM... hell my, 95 cobra will tel me about a lean condition. You would think a 04 processor would as well....

The XC2 has "Extreme Tune" this allows a fair amount of adjustability for the end-user. Files are in a *.xtr format and must be attained from the dealer you purchased your XC2 from.

For roughly $200 you can take your XC2 and Live Link (data-log program from SCT) and turn it into a wide-band monitor. But you will need a computer running inside the cab to actually view it.

Has for gobra and hwm3, i can't even make out what you guys are arguing over.

Will the dealer give you the XTR file? I am looking a the TWEECER for my Cobra and if you buy the Unit, they will pull your programming from your chip and put in a tweecer file. It's pretty cool and similar to the Pro Racer package from SCT i think. There are a TON of people tuning their own cars using the tweecer. It helps that they have their own support group though...

Asinatra, I hated transfer functions in college. I still do

I got the .LL3 files and use Live Load. Live Load and .LL3 is the newest format and all the user-end adjustability is right on the XCal2 now. Live Load is downloadable at the SCT websight

I'm not guessing. I let someone tune my truck that KNOWS what he's doing.

And you won't get a CEL if your running lean at WOT.

Good for you... I know you are very happy. Dont worry about me, i will be fine.

I didnt know that about the CEL on WOT. Is that because it is in Open Loop mode? It seems to me that the PCM would still want to know if it was running lean or not, even if it wasnt taking o2 sensor input as feedback.

That's just it - the PCM (in these vehicles, and any other vehicle that uses narrow band O2's, which is 99% of all vehicles) couldn't possibly have any idea of a lean or rich condition in open loop, as the PCM doesn't get any data from the O2's for the use of A/F ratio feedback control in O/L.

Remember, these vehicles use narrow band O2 sensors, which is why the further away from stoich A/F they get (which is 14.64:1 for "straight" gasoline - I.E., no oxygenated fuels, gasohol, or other type of fuel), the less accurate they are - closed loop operation exists so the PCM is always correcting to stoich A/F based on the upstream O2 sensor output.

Also - it is a complete myth that you get a check engine (or service engine soon, etc.) light for a lean or rich condition anyway - that is another myth.

The only time you get the engine-related MIL is when the emissions exceed 150% of allowable limits for that particular vehicle - and *only* then will a check engine or SES light illuminate.

Now that could happen *due to* a rich or lean condition, but it has to be rich or lean enough to cause emissions to exceed the allowable limit by more than 50% - so the light will never illuminate just because of a lean or rich condition - it only lights up when emissions exceed the allowable limit by more than 50% - I.E. emissions have to be at 151% or greater for the CE to illuminate. Which can be due to a lean or rich condition, catalytic converter problems, or any of 100's of other reasons.

Just FYI....

I ordered my XCal2 yesterday! MTs post is the exact reason why I didn't get a "canned" deal like the Edge. I have absolutely no idea what anything in his post meant! Might as well have someone who knows what they're doing put it together.

Kinda funny. The folks at Troyer have been really good about trying to answer my questions. There is a saying in the Air Force: "How does that work? It's FM. Freakin' magic." I'm trying to unravel it, but it's like a 2 year-old asking about Astro-physics.

Airdrop, I ordered XCal2 from Mike a couple days myself, I have a Edge, been playing with it for 6 weeks and still don't no idea what i'm doing with the setting in it....the only way I know to check the setting is on a dyno, if I have to spend money on a dyno... its going to be Mike's dyno, with Mike's tunes...Done deal, done right....I've only talked to Mike one time of over an hour and from reading many post on here from Mike, also the many people on here highly recommending Mike, I completely trust my trucks well being to him....
