whats the best chip out there

i am new to the site and hope to use it to help me determine what products to get for my truck. i bought an 05 4.6 f-150 in july and am considering chips. so far i have been leaning towards teh superchip microturner but looking around i see one by diablo, hypertech, edge, a new one from superchip, and im sure there is more out there. its also the cheapest i found at just over 300 at truckaddons.com but whats really the best based on ya'lls experiance? i might end up getting a bigger tire down the road so i want one that will callibrate for that. any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks guys.

My personal choice is the XCal2 custom tuned by Troyer Performance; it’s been everything I expected and then some in the performance department plus improved fuel economy

i highly second the above- i could have used a tuner that i can adjust the settings-on- i'm using mike troyer's tuner as he knows the codes inside and out- and how to make "safe" power, and great part throttle torque- exactly what these heavy trucks need- his customer support is second to none- [maybe anita's or crystal's] ,i'm a business owner and customer relation's are top notch in repeat customers-thats why my last ford was done by mike thisone and all future ones-phil

Troyers custom tuning with the xcalII.

Much better than any canned tune you can purchase, and Mike will answer all your questions, not leave you hanging for answers on a chat board.

Give him a call, you will be glad you did.

Hi j_marinelli,

Many people here come to us for their tuning & other F-150 performance needs, due to how long we have specialized in improving the performance of the F-150 platform. We also provide special discounts to registered members of F-150 Online like yourself that are not reflected in the pricing you see on our web site - so you'll want to call us at (540) 862-9515 for that info.

One important thing you need to know about your truck is, the 2005 & up 4.6 F-150's generally run very lean from the factory, typically as lean as 15.0:1 in our many dyno tests of these newer 4.6 trucks in stock trim - and that is just too lean for safety, let alone for best power & performance. That can only be properly corrected in a custom tune, no off-the-shelf tuner can correct that properly. There are some that pull dumb stunts like commanding a much richer-than-desired A/F ratio, basically trying to "band-aid" the situation, but the only thing that accomplishes is an unreliable A/F ratio as it is pure guesswork. Only custom tuning can properly correct this problem, and actually make maximum safe & sustainable power gains.

We provide a set of 3 different custom tunes in a hand-held tuner (the PCM in the 2004 & newer F-150 cannot accept a traditional "chip" type of device) that are set up for each individual vehicle owner's needs & desires, so that each truck is tuned individually.

You will appreciate the improved throttle response, horsepower, torque, vastly improved shifting characteristics & overall driveability in our custom tuning - it wakes the truck up and makes it much more enjoyable to drive, as well as providing the potential for some improvement in MPG - when you can keep your foot out of the throttle.

This is just some quick brief info, of course - to go over this in proper detail, please give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to cover all of this with you thoroughly, so you can make your decision from a fully informed position.

Thanks for your post, & best of luck whatever you decide!

I got the Air Force One and love it. It’s the one I recommend & it adds 25hp to the rear wheels at 3,000rpm’s

Just a quickie, does that setup pull hot air from the engine into the system?
Thanks

Just to throw another option in..

I am Very happy with my Edge tuner/display. It has the tuner I wanted and the guages I wanted. Its a drag strip toy, a power adder, an information center, and the cost is really VERY affordable. You can find it on sale at www.TruckRacingparts.com for about 339 and where I got mine www.DiscountPowerParts.com for 339, but I see it is now 327 plus shipping, so its even cheaper now. The deal at truck racing is over on the 8th of this month it says. I am still undecided on intakes, and I may think of the underdrive pullys yet...but that may be to hard to change.

Mike now sells Edge products as well....and is a site sponser. So I would try him first if you do so choose the Edge. I've got it and love it.

No offense meant, but the two sites I mentioned may or may not be site sponsors, but a site sponser of any site I was never sent me a paycheck. I look for a good deal...site sponsor or not. And I dont really like the "specials" and "coupons" to much..like Truck Racing Parts. Thats why I do the majority of my shopping at Jegs and Summit. Low prices, no crap, and no playing games with sales and coupons. Whoever Mike is, I am sure he is a great guy, but I will never play the "call me and Ill beat any price"...cause the entire world says that. If you have good prices, make it so on your website, tell me here....or I'll go with the guy that does. Maybe I am not like others...and I do have a 7.3 Powerstroke and I have a custom tune on it...and its not by Mike. Mike, I appreciate you sponsoring the site, its a nobal effort. Way to go Mike! Now send me some cash!

Another vote for the Edge! I had a Diablo Predator and can tell you that I did not see or feel the gains I did with that, like I do with the Edge. Hands down the Edge wins. I have not even tried the #3 tune yet. It is worth every penny. Did not get it from Mike (sorry Mike). Got it for a great price though, 339 shipped. I can't wait to tinker with the settings too. See you on the road.
