Hi - I think you may need to re-read those posts. This is one of the few intakes that don't have that problem, in general.
Here's one:

I have had the AF1 on my truck for about 6000 miles with no codes. Intake lets you know it is there when you get on the throttle. I also had no real difficult installation issues.....watch the hole pattern on you MAF sensor you may need to open the holes a little.

Hi rawzon,
Vic is absolutely right about some individuals who don't even own the kit saying things like that - however, there is also 1 possibility I want to mention to you.
For earlier 2004 trucks, and in some cases, a few of the later 2004 builds, in the PCM's stock factory programming it is set up to report a lean OR a rich code LONG before the engine actually goes rich or lean - it was a dumb thing to do, but some of the 2004's will throw a code. If that happens, just clear the code with a code scanner - DON'T DISCONNECT the battery, as that not only clears the code, but it *also* wipes out the adaptive strategy adjustment, which you don't want - a few cycles of that and it goes away anyway.
But that's the reason why there have been some *legitimate* posts from 2004 owner getting codes on the dash, simply because the code reporting threshold is way too tight, making it report a lean or a rich code while the PCM is still well within it's ability to actually compensate for that.
In the 2005 F-150's, Ford still does that, but they opened up the lean code reporting threshold by exactly 2.8% - a tiny amount - but it's just enough so that the 2005 owners do not have th at problem - unless they didn't install it correctly, of course.
So that's the scoop - those posts come from owner running on the stock factory tune or some other tuner, not running on our custom tuning. In our custom tuning, we take care of that by simply opening up the code reporting threshold to the same as Ford did themselves in the 2005's and problem solved.

thanks for the info! I cant wait to get it.. hoping i dont see the code problems. if it does is this something that will require me going to a shop to get cleared then? as i dont have a code scanner
Hi rawzon;
Don't buy just a code scanner. Save that money and put it toward an Xcal2, which will do that, and much, much more.

Just ask JP!
Meanwhile, if that code pops up, borrow a buddie's device to clear it, or go to your nearest AutoZone, and ask them if they will.
Cheers & good luck with that intake!

That's an excellent point - for those who do not have any performance tuning yet and also do not own a code scanner, picking up our custom tuning loaded into the XCalibrator 2 will get you all of that in one shot.
The XCalibrator 2 has complete enhanced-parameter diagnostics, and can be used to read and clear codes - it also has built-in high speed datalogging and so many more features. To say nothing of the sheer raw horsepower & torque gains, performance improvement, much better throttle response, transmission shifting, etc., etc. (shameless plug).
Now in a pinch, yes, you can go to Auto Zone and they will read & clear codes for you. These days many auto parts store chains are doing that as a service for people - they do it to help stimulate sales of course, but that can be used in a pinch to clear a code.
Overall, don't be surprised if you do get a code in those 2004's, as that is somewhat common due them having a tighter code-reporting threshold than the 2005 & newer F-150's do, so that's a rather common trait. Just continue to clear the code & the PCM will learn around that.
The best scenario is to have the AF! *and* our custom tuning in the XCalibrator 2 too, as that will get you much larger power gains, and we take care of the codes being reported as well by setting them up just like Ford did in the 2005 & newer F-150's, with a slightly wider code reporting threshold. That way it's not throwing "false" lean codes left & right, yet you are still protected as it will still report a code well before you actually go lean or rich. We also fatten up the MAF TF function a bit as well so the fuel trims are more in line, etc.

I hear you!!
Ford is cutting back left & right, one of our good friends & a fellow member here was forced out of Ford after 16+ years. You know, just in time to cut his retirement benefits to a fraction of what they would have been at 20 years. Grrr...........
Good luck!

, but I have been through too much in my time and instead I am looking forward to a new adventure, "doing something I really want to do".
I guess the cat is out of the bag on who I was talking about!
>>>.... instead I am looking forward to a new adventure, "doing something I really want to do".
And we'll be talking along those lines here in a day or two - I know you've called, but I've just been slammed getting tuning out. Give me a day or two & we'll talk over the weekend, Marc. Thanks!

If the AF1 you ordered is #16419 for a 4.6 I HOPE they ship on the 3rd! I ordered mine on 8/29 , It was backordered and I was told it would ship on 9/9. Every time I call I'm told the same thing "it will ship the end of next week". I truly hope it's worth the wait.
