I just got my XCal 2 from Troyer yesterday. I went out and loaded it up with the 87 tune ( I am in So Cal, where 91 is stil over $3.
) and took for a drive. WOW! I can't wait to try the 91 tune. If I ever have to tow, I will drop to the stock tune.
I also noticed on my way into work this morning that I hardly had to step on the gas to get up to cruising speed. It's a little strange to feel the difference in the shifts and power after having the truck for two months now. You get used to the way it drives.
I have an upcoming camping trip to Lopez Lake at the end of the month. Maybe time to try the 91 tune then.
Mike, are you seeing a lot of the VHX6 codes for the 05?
Thanks Mike.

Okay, I couldn't stand it any longer. I broke down and called Anita this morning and asked where I was at in the queue. She was very helpful and courteous and answered all my questions.
She says I am eight in line from the top. I know 5.4Screw is ahead of me, so maybe that gives you some comfort in knowing that we're both getting closer. Anita said it should be first of next week and she thinks Mike is currently tuning with the 2.9 software instead of Mako because of some software updates that SCT is having issues with.
That'll put me at about the same waiting time as high_lander so I hope to be feeling my own difference soon. Patience, patience...

KRConvert, thanks for the update. What is this new 2.9 software? Is it the latest revision for Mako? Will we still have end user adjustability with this new update? No doubt we will, just curious about the new software. Thanks.....

What that means is, you will NOT have the on-board change ability until we get this issue resolved with SCT for those whose tuners we are sending out from today until that is resolved - but have heart, as SCT will also be supplying us with a utility that will allow us to bring your existing Advantage 2.x tunes into Mako (Advantage 3.0) so that we can then re-enable the ob-board change ability, without anyone having to send those units back in to us to be manually reloaded.

high_lander, do you know if yours came with the 2.9 instead of the Advantage 3.0? At this point, I don't really care, because I know Mike will make it the best it can be right from the start. The user upgradability will be nice down the road, but right now I'm just looking for a changed performance!
Not sure on that. Mike would have to answer. I can look in my paperwork to see if there is anyhting that states what software was used. Or is it in the actual device?
I got my sc2 last week and installed the 91 perf tune - works real smooth with the Factory Tech valve body.
As Mike has said shifting is " linear ", that is short and to the point at low rpm's, and grab yer......... at wot.
I don't have to push as hard with the right foot anymore to just get around- but pushing real hard with the right foot is way more fun now.
I got:
87 perf
91 perf
93 drags - maybe we try this one Frday night-

The way you can tell if it was programed with the 2.9 is the Xcal 2 will not make adjustments (like idle rpm, tire size, gear ratio, ect.) on the unit itself. there will be an update soon to convert your Xcal2 and your tunes to the new version after the bugs are worked out by SCT. Mike said this can be done without sending our Xcals back to him.

Hi Everyone,
Good thread!
What 05Silver said in the last post just above this one is exactly right.
Here's the scenario - - we started tuning using Mako (Advantage 3.0x) on August 15th - we had it long before then, but were not satisfied with our results until that point. Well, then just this past week, there were 4 major updates to Mako (Advantage 3.0), and when we had our Dyno Day this past weekend we ran into problems with Air/Fuel ratio control - but only on the 5.4 3V's - so we have gone back to tuning using the last version of our tuning software, which is Advantage 2.9. Now in *that* version, we CANNOT enable the ON-BOARD user adjustable functionality like we can when we use Mako (Advantage 3.0)
But have heart - very soon SCT will be releasing a utility that will allow us to email to you your tunes along with an application so you can reload the tunes and thus ENABLE that ON-BOARD end user adjustability - so you won't have to wait long for that. They are also releasing a new firmware update for the XCal 2 that you can download that will also help improve that on-board adjustability functionality.
For us, it's far more important to have proper A/F ratio control. This was never a problem until the last 4 major updates done to Mako over just this past week - and our Dyno Day happened just a couple of days later, so it was the first opportunity we had to really wring it out and do proper back-to-back testing to see the results, looking at the A/F's stock and then with our normal tuning - we got results we have never seen before, so we went back to tuning with Advantage 2.9 and immediately the trucks started behaving again. This took so much time to test thru that our 1 day even turned into a 2 day event, as we were there most of Sunday as well as all of Saturday.
Again, this is *precisely* why we do the kind of testing we do, time after time after time - any time we get any kind of change, we *test* - it's the only way to know what really happens.
So that's the scoop, guys - now this prolonged Dyno Day test session also put about another 3 days on delivery time for custom tunes, but don't worry, all of you in this thread are at the top of the pile, and will be done in the next day or two, and then we can get back up to speed and knock them out quickly again. It was just the combination of numerous major updates to the tuning software that threw us for a loop, as it required thorough testing, during which we found out that we were not satisfied with the A/F ratio control - it was NOT a problem on all the other vehicles we tuned - for example, we tuned a TEM7 2005 F-150 with the Roush supercharger, commanded a 12.0:1 A/F and got *exactly* a perfectly straight line at 12.0 using Advantage 2.9 - then we tuned a couple of higher-powered Lightnings, and got exactly what we commanded.
Those are the kinds of things we go thru to make damned sure that you get what you are supposed to get - test, test, and test again.
So I hope that brings you up to speed, and now I'm going to get the rest of the posts caught up here as quickly as possible and get back to burning up the keyboard doing your tunes, gentlemen!!!
Thanks for your patience & your wait it almost over!!
