What can I expect from the Xcalibrator?
I just picked up my F150 Super Crew Lariat, I ordered it back in December. I ordered it with the 5.4 V8 hoping to have a truck with a little punch when I took off from a stop sign. I know I’m asking to have my cake and eat it to, a work truck that has the hart of a sports car, but that’s what the TV commercials promise. Shortly after I ordered the truck I started reading this message board and had already decided to purchase a Xcalibrator but after my first drive I was some what apprehensive. I’m not sure even the best turner will get my super crew from where it is to where I was hoping it would be. So I’m asking “What can I expect for the Xcalibrator?”. I know without some frame of reference it is like asking how big is big so I will try to describe my impression of the stock performance with the hopes that some one can use this description as a beginning to convey the change that the Xcalibrator can make.
From a dead stop with moderate movement of the accelerator peddle I hear before I feel the response from the drive train. After about a second delay I start to feel the acceleration that like, a stripper at a bachelor party, suggest a potential for pleasure that is never quite achieved. I guess that what I feel is lacking is throttle response and that “lean you back in the seat” feel. Will the Xcalibrator get me there?

Hi jgross,
Welcome to F-150 Online!
The biggest complaint all 2004 & newer 5.4 3V F-150 owners have is exactly what you are describing - a lack of "basic throttle response," along with not having as much power overall as you think it should have. This is compounded by the fact that it is a VERY heavy 1/2 ton truck - the heaviest.
We can help you with that. We can get a 30HP & 45+ lbs./ft. torque gain from the 5.4 3V trucks and in some cases even more depending on your local fuel quality (peak, even larger in some areas below the curve), in addition to fixing the throttle response problem.
Our custom tuning is the single best bang for the buck performance enhancement you can make to these vehicles - nothing else for the same or less cost will deliver as much improvement in performance. Now that doesn't mean it'll be transformed into a rocketship - it simply means exactly what I said, it's the single best bang for the buck. It will certainly make you happier with that vehicle.
I hope that brief info helps, & please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below if you'd like to go over any of this in more detail,, go over your results, etc., we'll be happy to help.
Congrats on your new truck, & glad you dropped by - good luck with your truck, and hang in there - it *can* be made much more fun & capable!

Thanks for your input. I think I now have a realistic expectation for the improvement that the Xcalibrator will provide. I will be placing an order today online, how long would you expect it will take before I receive the turner?

I will probably be ordering an xcalibrator this coming week. Anita sent me the custom tuning worksheets to fill out so I guess I better get busy. Cant wait till I get it. I know what the 1715 did with my 03 F150. Now I'm ready to see what Mikes tuning does for my 04 Screw.
jgross, especially liked your comment "... like, a stripper at a bachelor party, suggest[s} a potential for pleasure that is never quite achieved". LOL I think you win the award for most picturesque language on the message board for the day. Keep up the good work!

Hi jgross,
It's literally a matter of how many custom tunes we have in front of yours, so to speak, when your CPW's (Custom Program Worksheets) are filled out & arrive here to us - each tune gets done in the order it came in, simple FIFO (first in, first out).
On average, it's usually about a week to 10 days - here lately, we had a longer lead time, but we've gotten most of that caught up - so figure that it will be roughly about 7-10 days from the time we get the paperwork back from you until the time your new custom tuning is actually done and ready to ship out the door - from there it's a matter of how far you are from us, and what level of shipping service you want - Ground, 3-day, 2-day, or overnight service.
Sometimes we can get it done quicker, and if so, we'll certainly do that - there are times when we can get it done in just a couple of days, for example. But we generally tell people about 7-10 days + shipping time just to try to be safe. As long as we have your email address, you will automatically get an email with the UPS tracking number once your shipment is actually on it's way, so you'll know what day it will arrive once it ships.
