Mike Troyer, since you have the ability to change many different characteristics of our trucks via the PCM, do you have the ability to alter/install control settings for disengaging the A/C clutch at any of the following: a certain RPM, a certain reading from the TPS, or a low vacuum signal? If so, would you need the vehicle at your shop, or could it be done remotely?

Hi SL,
Yes, we *can* control at what throttle position the A/C compressor clutch disengages in your 2003 truck, no problem - and we automatically do that in our performance tuning, for example.
It's controlled by throttle position (as it should be), and in the vast majority of these trucks the A/C compressor is NOT automatically disengaged at full-throttle from the factory. Now there are a *few* of the late-model F-150's that will disengage the A/C compressor clutch automatically at WOT (wide-open throttle), but by and large, in perhaps 90% or even more of the various different PCM revisions, Ford doesn't do that in the F-150. They figure that when you're towing, for example, you're going to see a lot of heavy throttle use and most people tend to tow more in summer - that's when more people take their family on vacation, when the kids are out of school - so they don't want the occupants inside the cabin to melt by having no A/C at heavy throttle when towing the family camper, trailer, etc.
No, we do not need to have physical access to the vehicle to do that for your truck, just give us a call & we can take care of that for you - that would be done in either a traditional chip or what most people use these days, our hand-held custom tuner. In other words, that is controlled by the PCM and to alter that, you'll need to install either one of our chips or what most people use and what I recommend, our custom hand-held tuner - that way nobody knows it';s there and there are no limitations with regard to what kind of diagnostic tools can be used, etc. We can also set you up with custom engine tuning for any level of octane and significantly improve the driveability of that truck for you, even if you want to use only 87 octane, for example.
Just give us a call.
