Question Superchip

QUESTION: I have a 2001 F150 reg cab 4X4 long bed. Im moving up from the stock 235 tires to 265s. I do some off roading to get to hunting fishing mountain biking locations and I pretty much drive like a grandpa unless someone starts acting stupid and needs to be put in their place Im wondering 1. what is the average cost of a superchip to set my odometer and speedo back to normal? 2. Is it worth it to do this for what I use the truck for? Im just lookin for everyones opinions and appreciate any replies.

Hi WoodJM,

I am not the expert to answer your question except to tell you that installing a superchip will give you noticeable performance gains across the RPM curve. And if your truck is equipped with an automatic transmission, you will notice quite a bit of difference in the shifting pattern. It will be much more responsive and firmer. However, you will have to use at least 92 octane premium gas to run with the "superchip". Some people get around this by using a "flipchip", which allows one to run 87 octane by the flip of a switch, depending on what your needs are. The way gas prices are now-a-days, I'd say that would be a wise choice. As for the changes in tire size and how this affects speed-o-meter calibration, I'll leave that for the experts. I'm sure that your superchip can be customized to meet any application that you have in mind. Please note that the pricing is a confidential matter between you and the dealer and is not a subject for discussion in these posts.

Is it worth it???? I'd say most everyone here is happy with the performance gains, including myself. Good luck.

Hi Woodjm,

For details about what it costs to have custom programming done (such as a speedo recalibration, etc.) please contact us directly, and we'll be happy to provide that information about your vehicle. Generally speaking, anytime you need custom programming, you're better off to do it in our 2-program Superchip Flip Chip, as it's price includes the cost of any custom programming needed at time of purchase.

The Webmaster here has a policy against vendors quoting pricing here, to keep the message boards free of what is considered "blatant commercial content", so for exact pricing, please contact us via email or by phone, our contact info is just below.

We can do those speedo corrections for gear ratio & tire size changes on a good number of the different computer codes in these vehicles, whether we can do it on your particular vehicle or not will depend on which code (software revision in the ECU)it has, we're getting more and more of them done all the time.

Probably the best thing to do would be to give us a quick call when you get a chance, and we'll be happy to go over all of these details & options with you, so you can give it some thought. We're here Monday thru Friday from 10am to 7 pm, Eastern time.

Best of luck with your truck!
