Superchip installed - wow
Can't really check performance, we're getting LOTS of deserved rain here.
I really like how the tranny shifts now, even with the transgo kit I installed. I especially like the torque converter clutch operation - no more delays.
Truck seems to idle with more of an attitude than before, so I'm sure performance will be better.
I had the lip on the bracket, so I just removed the bracket and used my wizard to make a clean cut. I placed pcm on bracket and the superchip cleared great.
Wonder what one of these would do on one of our F-350 powerstroke ambulances?

Hi NascarKid,
Glad to hear you're up and running, and that your installation went smoothly, excellent!
By the way, we have a number of those Powerstrokes running the Superchips, from UPS vans to ambulances, to you name it, just about every body they're available in, we make the Superchip for and people are using it.
In the Powerstroke diesel, the Superchip adds 50 horsepower and 100 lbs./ft. of torque, very nice gains indeed, thanks to the fact that it's turbocharged and deliberately de-tuned quite a bit by Ford. Another point is that the Powerstrokes usually pick up some nice gains in fuel mileage as well, so in ambulance applications it helps you get on the scene faster and quicker, and usually gets better fuel mileage as well.
The Powerstroke engine is actually manufactured by International, and thru the 2000 model year they made it available in power levels bone-stock all the way up to 325 hp and 675 lbs./ft. of torque, much higher than Ford offers. Ford de-tunes it to 235 hp & 500 lbs./ft. of torque for the 1999 & 2000 model year, for example. This is why we can make such large power gains without affecting the design service life of the powertrain, as even with the 50 hp & 100 lbs./ft. of torque we add, it's still below it's stock power output as supplied to other vehicle makers by International.
If your rescue squad would like to give this a try, just give us a shout and we can arrange that for you, to see if it will do what you want it to in your situation.
Have fun with your Superchip! (when it stops raining, that is
)

nascarkid, do you have any idea how fast your truck runs in the 1/4 mile? before the chip.. I have the same truck and i was just wondering because my friend wants to run me and his runs a 15.9 in the 1/4(at noble) his is a standard, mine is an auto..
4ord_man.
Hope I'm doing this reply correctly.
I don't know about the time......YET. Only had the truck for about a month now. I know it *rocked* pretty good before the chip. I know I really like the tranny operation after the chip - it's awesome! I would recommend the chip just for the tranny operation. When the rain stops here, I'll get a chance to check the performance out.
The supervisors at work have an Expedition 4.6. I drove it and been with them when they are running - hot. Before the chip mine would could have *waxed* them.
If you don't have one in yours it's worth the $$ and time to install it.

Just to give you a rough idea, it usually takes about 1 to 1.5 hours of labor to install most shift kits, so you may be able to use that time figure if you know your local labor rates to determine your cost of installation.
Good luck!

Trust me if your not mechanically inclined or not good with tools don't do it. I had about a nervous breakdown installing mine. One of the valve springs shot across the garage. Thanks to a good magnet and spotlight, I found it. But with the Superchip plus the TransGo, she really shifts good, sometimes a little too hard. That's what I asked for though.

Sorry about the delay. I installed mine myself, but I've had lots of tranny experience from working at Ford dealerships before coming to the ambulance service.
You're wise to admit any limitations. I've seen guys who won't and end up destroying parts.
Mike is correct on the labor time.
jackhel. Over the period of time, I've had those springs fly, valves drop out unexpectedly and check ***** roll out from no where land.

Hi 4ord man,
Jackhel & nascartkid have made some *very* valid points about this, and I would agree.
One thing I would point out is that with most Trangso shift kits, they are available with an excellent video that gives most people the ability to get it done themselves, but you can still always run into issues, so if you're not certain about doing it yourself, you're by far better off to let a "pro" do the installation.
Like the others said, you're a wise man to let someone else handle this installation if you're not comfortable with it.
