I absolutely love to hear about a Dodge kill. A friend of mine has been a Dodge lover for years and he has taken great pleasure out of beating my truck on the top end,(due to dodges higher speed limiter), for the past 6 years. Our yearly races are always on the way to our deer lease.
Well this year I have a little surprise for him.....I am now modded up and ready to make a dodge kill of my own. November is the date and I have not said a word to him about my mods...LOL.
Time to get even.

Hi Jabber,
You did *extremely* well to even stay on the same street with that mid-90's Camaro, as it would have been a 285 hp LT1, with a 6-speed manual if it was a manual tranny car (or the 4-speed 4L60E in the case of an automatic). They can easily turn 14.0 in very close to stock trim, just a quick intake & exhaust change will get 'em there. So I'd say you're doing very well in that 4.6 Supercab truck, even with a blower, to stay close to him. Nice job!

Well the lakefront was closed off, because the streets are covered with sand and water, so everyone that usuall parks, was just driving around.
I had a revving contest with a 5.4 4x4 Screw, and then we did a little 5 - 35 mph blast, where I had him by a half truck.
Next was a Ram 1500 V-6 Manual. He came blowing by me and Intel486, so I went after him. We got lines up next to one another at a light, and I rolled into the gas, and by the time I hit 50, I had him by about 2 1/2 - 3 truck lengths. We go over a little overpass, and he drops it into gear, and I wait for the endless downshift (Mike will a shift kit speed this up?) nad take off, and pull a truck length on him. Well once we hit the crest he gets on it again. so I rub it in, and take it up to about 70. But at the next light, the guy tells me I have a nice truck, I say likewise, and we say a few things, and go our seperate ways. I respect him, he didnt do the loosers flyby.
Next was wit ha early 90s Celics all riced out. I didnt know he wanted ot run, so I took of normal, but I hear him spin his tires of the line. I drop it into 1st ,and take it to about 45, I heard him shut it down, and he was at my back bumper.
Well while I was messing around with the Celica, a new F-150 v-6 Standard, takes off around both of us. Well I follow him for a little, and we eventually catch a light. This guy was reving his engine the whole time he was cruising. I said I'm gonna pu this guy in his place. Well the light goes green and I goto WOT, with mininmal tire spin, by the time I hit 60, he was about 3 lengths behind me. he did the usual loosers flyby, and then turns off at the next light. His truck seemed to lack a whole lot of power off the line. Once He hit about 20, I was still pulling on him, but not as fast as off the line.

Beastie,
I get a real kick out of these guys in their 6 bangers. They really do believe they can take an 8.
I can't quite put a finger on thhe human emotion that keeps them from just admitting their credit ain't quite good enough to afford a real engine...LOL.

beastie,
Sorry I did not answer this question sooner. I did not even see it until just now.
One thing I have noticed as I have done my mods is that with each mod it gets a little harder to "feel" the last one. My sotp dynometer tells me yes. I am thinking that what makes it tough to tell is the percentage of increase goes down every time I increase H.P.
Thinking about it for a minute....I did the FIPK and the Superchip within about a week of each other. That change blew me away. It actually got me hooked
.I then did the Gibson S.T. and lost some of the low end torque I had gotten with the other 2 mods.
Then I did the pulley kit and got my exhaust loss back. Then I did the fan kit and gained some more back.
The gibson S.T. got on myy nerves so I went with the Magnaflow SISO 3" cat back and gained a little more. I know that I keep beating the heck out of most of the other pick ups around here and have blown several away out on the highway.
And don't forget, I kicked that thugs butt last week on my street.
I did all my mods within about 2 months. At this point I feel I have Gotten about as much as I can with the fuel system our trucks come with and to take it another step would require at the least a better fuel pump.
Time for a lightning. I am going to get a 2003 Black lightning as soon as I can get my hands on one. That is going to get my major mod money next. Super Chip, Better air intake and electric fan kit are getting done first on that ride.
Long story short....pulleys definitly help and the fan kit gets rid of a 10 pound hunk of metal off the front of my engine...LOL.

for those that doubt the new hemi, you are WRONG. i have a loaded supercrew with 285/60/18 with a 3.55 gear (tire size does not help me) and i have one modification, vortech s/c, supposed to be 350 to 360 hp crank (thats what they say). maybe 100 lbs of tools me and my dad , the hemi guy was alone.
raced a 4 door 1/2 ton hemi this morning. every time we raced he pulled me off the line (whats up with that low end ford torque) and about 35 i caught him and a 70 i had him maybe 1 truck length. one time he jumped me off the line and i never caught him. once he started in front of me and i was able to come around him.
they run good and the low end was not week as most think they "would be". i know that most hemis have a 3.92 gear (he had 20's).
it was fun my dad was panicing and we only raced up to about 70 (55 zone), we were both smiling.
btw. my truck will destroy a stock 5.4 supercad or supercrew.

Hey Roushfan,
Yes, you're darn right it would look *very* good on our web site, and we'll be happy to put it up there in rotation - then once our gallery section is launched, you'll be able to do it like you can here - though that will be a little while. For now we can put you in the rotation of trucks that appear on our home page and would *love* to.
I don't know if you have sent any pics to us before, but if you wouldn't mind, please do send us your pics & a brief write-up about your vehicle, mods, etc., whatever you like. You can email that to us at: sales@troyerperformance.com
If you email the pics, please use smaller pics at lower resolution (if you can), so that the file size isn't so huge - our email connection is still just 56K dialup.
Talk to you soon!

Wow, this old thread has been resurrected once again - it took me a bit to realize this was an old thread, when I saw Rocks posting then I realized it was old - he was one of the 2003 Lightnings we used last February in our 2003 Lightning tuning R&D sessions, & we haven't heard from Ron in a while - hope he's OK!
Brotherdave makes an important point here - when the new HEMI was first launched and for some time after (I don't have any dates), you could only get the HEMI in the heavier-duty trucks, 3/4 ton (and up, I think - you couldn't get it in the 1/2 ton at all for some time). But now you can get that HEMI in the 1/2 ton series as well, and in *that* platform it can potentially be a rather potent performer.
Mopar has traditionally put decent butt-hauling capabilities in their trucks, they almost always use advantageous gearing (numerically higher gearing like the 3.92 Brotherdave mentioned), they're generally a bit lighter in their small trucks, etc., etc. - so they have traditionally performed fairly well. The 5.2 (318) & 5.9 (360) V8's are a bit antiquated, still using old throttle-body injection, etc., but the newer 4.7 & the HEMI are modern mills, capable of excellent performance.
The quickest & lightest bone-stock 5.4 non-Lighting 2WD F-150's generally run about 15.5-15.7 or so in the 1/4 mile in cool weather - I would imagine the new HEMI in the 1/2 ton could easily handle that with it's 345 HP in the lightest possible configuration, with the biggest gear they offer - that could be a strong stock truck to come up against. Obviously it was in Brotherdave's case! Now to be fair, he's got a heavy SuperCrew there - I don't remember if it's 4WD, but even in 2WD that truck is over 5000 lbs., and with the blower, fuel, a couple people & some tools on board, it's pretty darn heavy. (And for Brotherdave, that sounds accurate in our experience, so no doubt that Vortech should have added 100 HP.)
I have no doubt about people whipping up on the HEMI's in the 2500's, which is still most of what you see on the road for HEMI's - and on casual glance they may not even know it's actually a 3/4 ton vehicle they're up against - those trucks aren't very quick. But the HEMI in the 1/2 ton can be a tough competitor.
Thanks to Brotherdave for being so candid about the performance of his Vortech supercharged F-150 compared to that 1/2 ton HEMI he ran across.

now the real question is who races going to work with there 63 year old dad? he is always talking about the "got a hemi " commercial and after racing he wanted to roll down the window and ask the guy that, light turn too fast for that.
