Mike, on a good week, I get about 14mpg around town, highway crusing 75 I tend to get about 15 or 16. I have the 4.6, 5 speed, 3.55, shortbed, extended cab, 4x4 off road. I do have a flowmaster as well as the airbox mods, a k&n, bosch +4's, and I do run 93 octane. If I don't, I get lots of pinging. I used to get mid 12's around town before using 93. It really did make that much difference since I had so much pinging. I didn't see a difference really at all with the +4's. In fact, non of my mods did me any better on the mpg's except for the 93 octane. I go to school in pittsburgh pa, so I guess we get ok gas here? I normally get it at BP. Hope this helps!

Mike

I track my mileage almost every tank and it is usually 15.5 to 15.8 mpg for my 4.2L V-6, 2wd Supercab XLT w/ auto trans and 3.55 gears. Best I ever got was 16.2 (all highway) and worst was about 14.5. My usual driving is mixed 75% highway/25% city, with highway at 70 to 75 mph. Truck is a California model and I have been disappointed with the mileage since day 1. I run 87 octane fuel. Ran 3 tanks of 91 octane (the highest available out here) and saw no improvement in mileage.

Usual gas is Shell or Chevron. In the Bay Area, we have had the 'improved' fuel with MTBE for some time now.

I'm jealous of some of the figures posted by the 5.4 and 4.6 liters. Wish I got mileage that good!

Most of my driving is highway, with the occasional wide-open-throttle demonstration of speed. I get consistant returns of 18-19mpg running Arco Premium. The truck weighs 4900 pounds with me and a half tank of gas. Truck was originally sold in Washington State and is still there.

Details of the truck are below:

These are *exactly* the kinds of posts everyone needs, nice job everyone!

We need to accumulate as many responses as possible, and then we will summarize the data for everyone, so they can compare. The more details you can give everyone in your posts, the better, so thanks to everyone for mentioning your gasoline brands, weights, what type of driving you do, etc., and thanks in advance for all the future responses.

This is excellent data that will help everyone to get fair and directly comparable data for like vehicles in like areas.

Bring on the data!

I get 13.5 to 14.5 on normal driving 60% city 40% highway. On Interstate trips I get 15 to 15.5. I used 87 octane from Mobile or Marathon. I tried 89 octane for 3 tanks and saw no noticeble improvements.

On a recent vacation trip I averaged an honest 18.4 and 18.9 on mostly interstates @ 65 mph covering about 600 miles total with some local driving. Best I ever got. Since I am a low yearly mileage driver (7,000 miles per year)under difficult short run, stop and go driving my normal mileage around my local area is 13 - 14 mpg.

I use mostly Texaco or Citgo gasoline. I feel with longer sustained interstate highway driving I could attain a little better than 19 mpg. There is not much I can do about my local short run driving.

Incidentally, my truck attains exactly what is estimated on Ford's MSRP window sticker.

Vehicle details in my signature.

>>>>As I posted in the other thread, I average 14.6 mpg on my daily driving round town, which is what my baby does the most. Recently checked mileage on vacation trip down to Florida from Virginia and got a very satisfying 17.6 mpg. Truck is 4.6 SC 4x4 five speed with the P255 16 inch tires and a 3.55 rear ratio. Opps nearly forgot, I use Exxon or Texaco 87 octane on my daily driving and 93 octane on my road trip.
