Dear JD,
Installation time on the 97 & later F-150 is about 30 minutes for a first-timer. It's a bit easier than installing an expansion card in your PC in some ways, I suppose, and maybe a bit harder in others, but over 95% of Superchip owners installed their own, so just about anyone can do it. The Superchip is a sealed module, with a female slot on the back of it, like the slot on a PC's mainboard only shorter, that attaches to the edge connector (J3) on the back of the Ford computer, so it attaches to the back of it in a sort of "piggyback" fashion.
The URL that 4DTHNDR posted is the location of the installation instructions, or at least the text. To see some color photos, take a look at: www.superchips.com/tdinst.htm. This is the instructions for the Powerstroke diesel, but there are some good color photos to show you what the computer looks like before and after the Superchip, so you might want to take a look at both URL's.
And welcome to F150online!
