Dyno Results!!!
Hello fello Ford fans!
The results are in and I couldn’t be more pleased! I WILL apologize in advance for the long winded post but I thought you’d want all this data. You might want to just print it...
First Dyno:
3,200 miles (No mods)
HP-197.7 @ 4,200RPM, FT\LBS-358.4 @ 1,500RPM
*Estimated Engine HP-237.24 (-22.76 below advertised stock HP)
Second Dyno:
3,200 miles (Wynjammer & K&N installed) (0 learn time on computer)
HP-274.3 @ 4,500RPM), FT\LBS-396.9 @ 1,750RPM
*Estimated Engine HP-329.16 (+69.16 over advertised stock HP)
Today’s Dyno:
9,750 miles (Added..Dual exhaust & Superchip.)(5 days since computer reset)
Run#1
HP-302.6 @ 4,500RPM, FT\LBS-437.2 @ 2,000RPM
*Estimated Engine HP-363.12 (+103.12 over advertised stock HP)
Run#2 (my favorite!)
HP-307.1 @ 4,500RPM, FT\LBS-441.1 @ 2,000RPM
*Estimated Engine HP-368.52 (+108.52 over advertised stock HP)
Run#3 (Superchip removed)
HP-291.1 @ 4,250RPM, FT\LBS-410.2 @ 1,750RPM
*Estimated Engine HP-349.32 (+89.32 over advertised stock HP)
*(using the 20% rule)
In conclusion, there are a lot of variables involved here that I haven’t mentioned (thank God!) but you are welcome to draw your own conclusions. The Superchip appears to provide an additional 21 HP and an amazing 31 more FT/LBS! I know that percentage wise it doesn’t seem high. But remember this truck is already getting a lot more squeezed out of it in the first place. Also the computer was educated with the Superchip in and may need time without it to relearn it’s optimum settings. It looks like the duals in combo with a little learn time for the computer also gave me about 21 HP & 13 FT\LBS (subtracting “Run#3” from “Second Dyno”). Naturally I’m VERY happy about the final outcome and I like thinking I may have just a few more HP than the stock Lightning! Even so I couldn’t beat one with my additional 1,300LBS of truck…But I’ll keep trying!….I’m putting my sights on 400HP!!!

Awesome! See how the superchip and duals added about 35 horsepower? Very cool! just to point out that I saw that Wynjammer doesnt add much horsepower or torque to most vehicles. Just thought I'd point that out.

WOW! AWESOME! Way to go wyn, to bad those guys the other night weren't standing on the boulevard with us, maybe the proof of our kick butt 5.4's would have shown them the light. Great numbers, its a real inspiration for me to get that balzing supercharger. That and headers are about all I'm lacking. talk to ya soon and thanks for those numbers.

Thanks Thom!
You are right about the 16.8 HP from the chip. At least that's what the crude numbers show. However due to margins of error and, as you mentioned, major prechip add ons, this number could be off a fair amount. I think in a purely stock truck the advertised numbers likely hold very true..some even more as I read thru these posts. I also have had "custom programming" done on this chip based on run data from the first two dynos. I'm sure some controls on my chip are turned up and some turned DOWN! For example, I already had to run high octane for the Wynjammer so in order to prevent spark knock timing could not be as high as on a stock (I'm totaly guessing mind you..)
Thanks again for all the comments!

HI!... Hey CABLEGUY 14.9 thats great! You are really getting me curious exactly how fast my truck is. I went to LONDON DRAGWAY yesterday and saw a "99" DAKOTA 5.9 R/T extended cab with 3.90 gears and posi only run a 15.91 e.t all day long. I was very tempted to run myself and show the DODGE how it was done but the place was packed (CAN-AM NATIONALS) and I did'nt want to wait 2 hours in the staging lanes. A freind of a friend of mine has a G-TECH PRO that he wants to sell, so mabey next week I might buy it off of him.

Unless I missed something you seem to have got quite a bit more power out of the dual exhaust than you did out of the super chip.
Your last run at it before the installation of the chip gave you 274.3 hp, then you added the dual exhause and chip for an increase in power of 32.8 hp to 307.1. Then you removed the chip and retained 291.1 hp (though the RPM loss is noted) so it would appear that the chip only accounted for half of the total power increase (16 of the total increase of 32.8). But the claims I've been reading have led me to believe that something more on the order of 25 hp increases should be expected. Now I clearly understand the marginal decreases in imporved performance that you get with increased modifications and I'm sure that had it been installed first and alone that the power increases attributable to it would have been greater but I'm still much suprised by your numbers. As it stands now you got about 4 times the bang for your buck with the installation of the Wynjammer & K&N. It might have made sense to stop there but most everyone knows that each horse costs more than the one before it (that's the marginal decrease I refered to). At any rate congratulations on having put together a package that is putting out respectable power!

On the 24th and 25th of this month there having their 17th annual ALL FORD DRAGS, and I'll definintley wait even if its 2 hours to get to the line, its such a gas. The wife still doen't fancy the idea a whole lot, but man coming home from work recently I came up behind her and brother does she like to get into it. I made that comment when we pulled into the drive way and she said she didn't see me and was not driving unusually fast so what the big deal. (the big deal is she is coming around to really enjoy it and might take my fun away.) Or better yet I'll have to get her started at the track herself.

Bill Bateman,
G-Tech is a device that plugs into your ciggarette lighter, and measures 0-60 and 1/4mile times. It measures horsepower, skidpad G's. Things like that. All you need to know is your weight of your truck and a few other things.
Well,
I am going to the Strip this Friday to test my beast! Ill post the results!

Dear Wynjammer,
Great looking dyno results, congratulations! And thanks for posted them for all of us. You are correct in that your custom chip application cannot be compared to the standard Superchip for stock trucks.
Enjoy!

Dear Thom,
You can't compare Wynjammer's custom supercharged application to the standard Superchip for a stock F-150. It's a completely different ballgame, you can't compare apples to oranges, in other words.
Wynjammer has some rather substantial modifications, not the least of which is a Wynjammer supercharger, and custom applications like his are more a matter of properly *tuning* the engine for it's modifications. In those cases, you may or may not see substantial power gains as a result, it all depends on what the particular situation, and vehicle configuration is. As confirmed by the dyno tests, the Superchip did in fact add substantial power, but not quite as much as a standard Superchip will in a stock, or nearly stock vehicle. I think that given Wynjammer's configuration, he got a very good result, and he's got a brutally-quick 5.4 to boot! In addition, as more time is spent at WOT, he'll pick up more horsepower as adaptive strategy adapts to his configuration.
By the way, welcome to F150online!

Thanks wynjammer for your dyno run information. You’re right! Your numbers are getting into the range of those published for Lightnings. Is there any way you can publish the plots?
Peak torque and horsepower numbers can be misleading. I feel the most important thing is the ‘area under the curve’. You need to be able to look at a plot of the torque and horsepower curves and see that a long, flat curve with little decernable peak is far preferable in regular driving to a boomerang shaped curve that peaks at a higher number. It helps when they (or you) color in the area directly under the curve.
In general, the long curve will provide substantial advantage at most RPM’s whereas the ‘boomerang’ will provide a greater advantage over a much shorter range. Race vehicles are geared to use higher output over a narrower band. Our trucks (especially with automatic transmissions) want strong power from off idle to ‘normal’ maximum RPM. How often do you reach 5 grand? I spend <95% of my time between 1,500 and 2,500, that’s where I want big torque, then GOOD horsepower after that to a shift point that set to optiimize the next gear.
Did the SuperChip ‘fatten’ the curve, improve driveability and increase fuel mileage, that’s what we need to monitor. Big numbers that you rarely see in daily driving can be misleading.

I did try to put my graph on my website but I have yet to get a scanned image that is readable. I'm trying to see if I can get the graph from Pro-Dyno in a file format so I could paste it into my page. Until then I can say that my intial increase seems to be a fairly even raise of the curve with exception of the lower end (up to 1500RPM). The test with the chip removed showed only a decline in the peak part of the curve and a slight decrease in the low end (again up to 1500) that it did improve. I really hadn't noticed that until your question prompted me to look at the "area" more closely. Thanks for that!
I must say that I cannot begin to compare to Lightning (YET!) due to the fact that my truck weighs 6,150 LBS (that's with me and a 1/4 tank of gas)...I will keep trying though. I think it still must be one of the fastest 3/4 ton 4X4 around...
