Hi C9,

Well, I can't tell you anything specific about any recalls, as we don't get involved in any of that - we're a performance company, not a general repair shop, so we don't deal with any of those matters.

However, what I can tell you is that if you allow your PCM to be reflashed for *any* reason, that will change the software revision and that will cause your Superchip to no longer work. At that point, your Superchip will have to be reprogrammed to once again match the new code, which means you'll have to know just what that new code is to be able to tell us. As long as you can correctly tell us the new code and the Superchip was purchased new directly from us, the only charge for us to reprogram the Superchip is just the return shipping charges, so this can be easy to handle if done correctly.

Sooooo.........

*If* you allow a PCM reflash, make darn sure that the dealership places what is called the "Ford Authorized Modification" sticker under the hood (it's a white sticker about 3 inches by 2 inches) with the new calibration code written out in full by hand on the sticker. This is supposed to be done anytime an EEC-V PCM is reflashed, but many times dealerships fail to do it, they just don't take the time. When they reflash, they know what code it is, and they reference it in a different way than what we do - what they will give you can be anywhere from a minimum of 6 to as many as 16 digits long. As long as we have that correct info, then we can do a cross-reference to determine the new 3 letters & 1 number code so we can reprogram the Superchip. That is, assuming we have that new code - if it's something brand new from Ford, we may not have it, and you'd need to send in your PCM to use for us to "read" it to get the code.

At any rate, this gets too involved to go over in proper detail here, just suffice to say that if you allow a reflash, you need to make sure the dealership affixes that modification sticker and writes in the new calibration code - by the way, not in the format you see on the sticker on the back of your driver's door that says "calibration" on it (and make sure you take a careful look at that sticker before doing anything) - that is only the first few digits of the actual calibration code, & we need the whole code. They can reference it in a couple of different ways, including the .hex code. Sometimes they'll give you the Ford Part# for the reflash, and that's fine - just remember, it will be a 6 to 16 digit code that they need to record for you, so you can give us that info to reprogram the Superchip with.

Good luck!

Thanks Mike... I'll look more into it, but since my truck is rarely in subzero conditions, it's not a big concern for me... but I still need to look into it...
