Round 2, 87 octane superchip....
Round 2, 87 octane superchip....
I checked with superchip, told them I wanted a chip that would be tuned for 87 octane, they told me it doesn't exist. Since I've used company gas for the last 5 1/2 years I'm not going to go out and start buying premium fuel now. I talked to Mike T previously, which stated the chip can be done as a custom application, I assume in a part # 1,100 application. The previous topic link.

I do want firmer shifts with a raised shift point, and whatever gain I can get with 87 octane.
Can this be done with a part # 1,715 tuner? Does the tuner have the setting for improved 87 octane running? I read on superchip's site Shift pressure/points can be altered also.
My code is KFK1, any help on the topic would be appreciated. If I can't get a chip tuned for 87 with the tranny improvements, I'll go with headers and Banks Tranny module instead.
Thanks in advance for the help/info.

Without the higher octane rating there's not really much you can do by way of "tuning". Sure you could have customer chip done to simply modify the shift charactaristics, change rev and speed limiters, but will that be worth the $$?
If you just want to improve shifting, why not modify the tranny instead? Shift kit etc.

Hi Hoseclamp,
1.) You should have called *us*, not Superchips. That isn't something Superchips is going to do for you directly. Nor will they even talk to you about it. Superchips isn't the least bit interested in providing chips or tuners for use on anything less than premium gasoline, as you don't gain much power that way.
The way to get a Superchip program for use on 87 octane is by calling *US* here at Performance Products, and we'll do that for you.
2.) You cannot use the 1715 F-150 Micro Tuner with anything less than premium gasoline. Period.
What you have to remember is that this is *performance tuning*, and the most basic aspect of performance tuning is just exactly that, tune the engine for more *performance*, which means using good quality fuel.
Here at Performance we will, on a special order basis, make a single or dual program Superchip module (not a Micro Tuner) for you so you *can* use 87 octane gas. Now what that will get you is about a 5-7 Hp gain, along with all the other improvements to shift characteristics, top speed limiter removed, delays & retards pulled, etc., so that while the raw power gain is small, the vehicle will still be more responsive than when running on the stock factory program. And maybe 1 out of 10,000 people will want a chip made for 87 octane. Now we *do* have a lot of people using the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip in our dual octane configuration, so they can have max power when they want to use premium just by flipping the switch.
The bottom line is, if you want to run a Superchip program on 87 octane, it will be in the traditional Superchip module only, and that is done by calling *us* here at Performance, not by calling Superchips directly.
If you want to go over any of this, give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to help you.
