87 octane chip?
I have an chip that is programmed for 87 octane and to my surpise, I picked up some noticeable power. I don't have dyno results, but with the chip, I can spin the tires longer/farther than I could without the chip.
I originally got the chip to get rid of pinging associated with the FOU1 ECU code.

It is a CustomChip. That company went out of business a while ago, but I've read that www.FordChip.com and www.reinhartautomotive.com use the same programming in their chips. The only thing custom about my chip is that I had it programmed for 87 instead of 92+ octane.
I was interested in getting a SuperChip, but Mike said I'd have to get a flip-chip to be able to run an 87 octane program.

Hello Gentlemen,
Actually, these days we do provide single-program Superchips for use on 87 octane, we've been doing that here at Performance on a special order basis for some time now. Superchips isn't going to make it a normal production product of course, but we can supply them tuned for 87 octane for anyone that wants that option.
The raw power gain on 87 octane is of course significantly less than on premium gas, but there is indeed some gain there, and of course the delays & retards are removed, etc., so the vehicle is more responsive at all times & will accelerate quicker, etc.
Anyone who wants a Superchip for use on 87 octane just needs to give us a call & we'll be happy to take care of that.

Hi Hoseclamp,
You may well find it's not available yet for your 2003 truck, so don't be surprised if that happens. We're really just getting started on 2003 F-150 & F-250 gas engine R&D in these trucks, & most codes are not yet available. We're still looking for more 2003 F-trucks to get in on the dyno & get the R&D done, but the 2003's are rolling out slowly, not many people have them yet, it seems this year the sales of the 2003 F-150's across the board, & F-250's with the 5.4, are slower than normal, so there aren't a lot of '03's actually on the road just yet.
We're getting these codes to Superchips as quickly as we can round up different 2003's to scan the codes from, but this is very early in the model year, so you may find that your vehicle's code isn't shipping quite yet, this always happens at the beginning of each model year of course. If so, it's just a matter of time, so hang in there.
Good luck!
