Who is Eddie Bauer??

At the risk of looking foolish, Can someone tell me exaclty who is Eddie Bauer?
How did he get a pick up named after him?
How about naming a pick up after John Wayne...or Matt Dillon or something?

I think he's asking about the individual... not the trim package.

I dunno.... I just get the EB catalog (and occasionally buy a shirt or two from there) and have always liked the pre-1995 Eddie Bauer trucks that were only made for a few short years. Sharp. I still only see one occasionally...

Eddie Bauer was somebody that did something.

These days, Eddie Bauer is a store that sells outdoor clothing and equipment like camping hiking type stuff for the yuppie set (that drive Explorers and Cherokees)

The worst one was the Bill Blass Mark 8's. At the time Bill Blass was best known as the designer who outfitted Barbara Bush.

How is that for making the Mark 8 look like a young sporty car?

Eddie Bauer

Eddie Bauer was a young man who opened a sporting goods store in 1920 in Seattle, Washington. He was very dedicated to providing the sportsman with "one-stop" shopping for huunting, fishing and camping gear. He expanded his stores rather slowly at first and grew it mainly a clothing outfitter. Within the ast 25 years, the Spiegal company purchased the Eddie Bauer name and corporation. Since the aquistition, EB has grown into the retail stores that we know of now. I believe it was the early 90s when FoMoCo and Speigal got together and created the Eddie Bauer themed vehicles. The Eddie Bauer package started out as a manner in which both Ford and EB could team up on each others successess and has grown into a few specific features and the distinctive Arizona Biege accents.

Feel free to correct me if needed, but I'm 99.9% sure that Eddie Bauer Bronco's were offered as early as 1986 in certain areas of the U.S.

True story

This is a converstion my dad had with my 79 year old grandma, after She had purchased a used Ford Expediton.

Dad: So how do you like your new vehicle?

Grandma: Oh I like it. It has every option you can think of, power this, power that, nice leather seats. They guy who had it must have ordered it with everything. The only thing I don't like about it is that the man who owned it had his name put on the side of the vehicle.

Dad: No kidding

Grandma: Yes. It's a nice enough name, it just that it's not my name. I suppose I could have it removed, but why bother!

Dad: What is his name?

Grandma: Eddie something.

Dad: Eddie Bauer?

Grandma: Why yes, that's his name!? Do you know him?
