Should I Worry About Repainting?

I have a concern.... I'm taking my truck in for a couple of issues (nothing super serious) in the next week or two and one of the items that I've noticed that I want addressed is that the passenger side washer nozzle has leaked and seemingly stained the paint a darker color. It is evident that the nozzle had leaked when you look at the 'pad' (because I'm not sure what it's actually called) under the hood that actually conceals the washer nozzle and tubing.

My question.

I'm worried that they're going to have to repaint the hood. Granted, I have a couple of rock marks and and a small scratch...

Should I be worried about a repaint?

I plan on having this truck for a long long time and it will be exposed to the elements over time. I'm a STICKLER about the appearance of my truck and I'm worried that, with the dark paint and all, that it will fade over time (as another vehicle that I had to have some paint work completed upon did--it was red). I thought the body shop that did my work on that older vehicle did a WONDERFUL job but, a couple of years later, it started to fade and change from the rest of the vehicle.

I've also seen it numerous times throughout the nation where you can just look and tell that the vehicle has been repainted because of a slight fading of the paint.

Should I be worried? Anyone have any insight? Can the 'stain' be potentially wetsanded out of sight? I'm scared to try it but, am certainly open to that option.

HELP!

In the famous words of Fred Durst "Itoadju!" that Chestnut paint was no good.
Here's your big chance to upgrade to Estate Green, double the resale value of your truck and stop being such an embarrassment to the entire King Ranch organization by driving such a pathetic colored ride. Even Charcoal Purple would be better.

Dave,

You're following me... this is border line stalking. I know the only reason you're following is so that you can look at my sig line and see that pretty chestnut king ranch that you wish you owned. LOL!

In all honesty, I used some orange windshield fluid this winter that was supposed to be a de-icer, but it left residue on the hood and the black plastic trim between the hood and windshield that I'm sure there is a stupid name for. didn't seem to hurt the paint , just was hard to clean off. Bought it at K-amapart and I saw the same brand this spring that was green colored. Can't recall the brand but I opted for the traditional blue stuff.
What are you using?

I was using the stuff that actually came from the factory. I almost never use the washer fluid and thus, I've never added any to the resevoir.

A good paintshop can match the paint so you won't know the difference. The problem, which your's might not be, is the fact that a repaint is almost never as good or durable as the factory job. The problem is, even thought they're using the same paint as the factory, they can't bake the vehicle at as high a temperature as they do in the factory. Now, in your case, it's only the hood. Maybe they can do it off the truck and bake it at a much higher temperature, matching the factory, than they can with a complete truck.

Did the dealer try acid washing the paint?

Dennis,

Thanks for your response.

As far as acid washing the paint is concerned, no, nothing has actually been done to the vehicle.

I guess I was asking more as a preparatory thing to get a heads up on what they may offer me to fix/replace the problem. I'm definately leaning away from them repainting it but, I am a tad upset about that damn stain on the paint.

I'll ask about the temperatures that they can achieve in their ovens.

Maybe I can make myself feel a little better by asking a few more questions. Heck, who knows, they might offer to just give me a new truck. LOL
