Angry Tire Dressing Splatter...

on my brand new truck!!!

I picked up my new F-150 Tuesday night, and when I pulled it in my garage, I noticed that there was an oily substance spattered all over the side of my pick-up. Last night I cleaned most of it off of the paint, but I couldn't get it off of the fender flares, door trim, or the rough paint on the rocker panels, it seems to be imbedded into the paint.

I took it to the dealers body shop this morning and was told that it would have to be repainted. I said, "NO WAY!" and went back to the salesman and his manager and told them that I bought a NEW truck, not "damaged goods". They agreed and took it to another body shop to see if he could get it off without repainting.

The salesman just called and said that my truck was done so I'm going to go get it now. I'm hoping that the other body shop was able to clean the tire dressing off of the truck.

What I was wondering was; Has anyone run into this problem before, and how was it resolved?

I'm not sure what kind of tire dressing they are using, but as of yesterday, they aren't using it any more.

The other body shop wet sanded most of the stains out of the rocker panels, but it looks like the moldings will have to be replaced.

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience regarding removing and replacing the plastic fender and body moldings?

Does the body shop have to paint them or are they ordered whatever color you need?

People used to use brake fluid as tire dressing back in the dark ages -- perhaps gramps is prepping cars to supplement his SSI.

Thats why I don't use the stuff in a spray can. I think it's the propellant that causes the staining, but who knows. Make sure you eye the truck really good and make sure they didn't scratch or dent it anywhere.

I don't know what the use but what ever it is can't be bought in a store. When I bought my truck I specifically told them not to armorall anything inside or outside. The dealer I go to seems to love to make everything greasy. Anyway right on the work order in real big letters stated "DO NOT ARMORALL ANYTHING INSIDE OR OUT".

Guess the guy couldn't read. They bring my truck out and the inside was fine but the tires looked like crap. I went to touch one and I swear there was "something" on their that was 1/16" thick when you wiped your finger across it took some off and looked like a valley. Told the salesman that crap has to come off.

He took it back had them wash it, etc. etc. Anyway after three washings they finally got it all off. Bet that kid was pissed off but I also bet the next time he will read, or have someone read to him the service order

Like I said it was thick nothing like I have every seen before

Sounds like the same stuff. They told me that they use this because it doesn't have any silicone in it ( they avoid silicone because it screws up the paint in the body shop).

He probably didn't know what Armorall was because they probably don't use armorall. There are some greasy professional products you can get in big 55 gallon drums that are worse than Armorall...

Well, I agree with you now. This was done prior to me learning about this forum and especially all the excellent information I have learned from you. Before anything greasy to me was Armorall , now I am actually learning the difference between products. Anyway as I said I don't know what they had on the tires but is was thick almost like grease, it was weird and boy were my eyes wide open when I seen that

I'll see if I can find out what they apply to the tires. I know what you are talking about though. I see it on the tires in car lots. It is really thick!

I use the tire dressing splatter to see if a car is being professionaly detailed or if it still has the tire dressing from the dealership. If I see a car with shiny tires, I then look to see if there is fling off all over. Most of the time when I see super shiny tires I see fling off... I then see a dealer's tag on the back
